Location: The successful candidate may have the opportunity to work anywhere in Ontario, but would be expected to attend the office at least 3 days per week. Location will be based on candidate preference, operational feasibility and office space.

About the job

Lead and manage projects: Plan and oversee projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. This includes developing cost estimates, project schedules, and liaising with clients and contractors.
Provide technical advice and guidance: Offer expert advice on activities related to carbon storage legislation, including licensing conditions, drilling and plugging plans, and new technology proposals.
Support compliance and conduct audits: Perform operational audits to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. Present findings and recommendations to management.
Develop and deliver training: Create and conduct workshops, seminars, and information packages to help stakeholders understand and comply with regulations, standards, and policies.
Represent the ministry: Participate in national and international associations, conferences, and committees to represent the province/ministry and support the development of legislation, regulations, policies, and standards.
Provide expert evidence: Present engineering evidence at hearings and in court regarding noncompliance with the Act.

What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Technical expertise in engineering:

• knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices in petroleum, mining, geological engineering, or related fields
• understanding of injection and operations procedures such as well infrastructure, reservoir storage, drilling, maintenance and abandonment techniques
• familiarity with relevant policy, legislation and regulations related to carbon storage
• ability to plan and lead projects, ensuring completion on time and within budget
• experience in developing cost estimates and project work schedules
• competence in procurement and contract management, including preparing terms of reference and administering consultant agreements

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• ability to provide technical advice and guidance to stakeholders and clients on regulated activities related to carbon storage
• able to develop and prepare materials such as reports, plans, tender proposals, and training materials
• presentation skills to provide expert engineering evidence at hearings and in court

Problem-solving and analytical skills:

• ability to conduct audits and identify preventative measures
• able to analyze technical data and field conditions to determine decommissioning procedures and alternatives
• able to evaluate drilling and plugging plans and proposals for new technology applications

Leadership and guidance:

• skilled in leading projects and ensuring they are completed within budget and on time
• able to provide technical oversight of Crown land offshore drilling and production programs
• ability to train staff and clients on relevant statutes, policies, standards, and procedures
