Summary of Position

Post title: FE Specialist Jewellery Technician (Maternity Cover)

Hours of work: Full Time - 40 hrs per week; Monday to Friday 9am -5:30pm

Contract type: Fixed Term - Maternity Cover

Salary: £27,500

Fixed Term Details - 6-month fixed term

Location: Camden

Purpose of role

To support the FE Teaching and Learning team to achieve high quality and inspiring delivery to learners. The post holder will work closely with tutors and students on a daily basis to manage the tech office, maintain workshops, tools and materials.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Resource scheduled teaching sessions for FE jewellery programmes, short courses, bench tests and delivery of courses within the Academy.
  • Respond to all enquiries providing a high standard of information, advice and guidance to customers and learners.
  • Handle the sales of consumables and cash reconciliation.
  • Liaise with the finance department on the purchasing of tools and materials.
  • Manage the financial reconciliation of Petty cash & filing of receipts.
  • Contribute to policies and procedures that improve the quality of service of the Academy.
  • Maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in the classrooms, workshops and CAD suite to ensure all learners are able to access a wide range materials and processes as part of their course provision.
  • To maintain and monitor stock control/ inventory of all tools and materials.
  • Manage the ordering of materials and equipment, and preparing and processing purchase orders on approval from the Head of Academy (FE)
  • To monitor and report updates on tools and materials budgets.
  • To manage any Technician Assistant or Apprentice as appropriate.
  • Under the direction of the Head of Academy (FE), ensure that all Health & Safety requirements are met.
  • To maintain first aid kits and other first aid materials needed.
  • To monitor the recording of accidents in the accidents record books across the sites.
  • To supervise classes as teaching cover for staff when required.

Person specification

Education, qualification and training

  • Educated in Jewellery Manufacture (or similar work experience)
  • Awareness of the regulatory framework for FE academic awards and quality standards

Experience

  • Background in a creative workshop environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of jewellery and/or fine art and design equipment, tools and materials
  • Desirable: be a practising jeweller with strong links to art or fine jewellery industry and demonstrable evidence of contemporary practice

Leadership/Skills

  • Highly organised and meticulous
  • Ability to effectively support a high performing team of tutors
  • Suggests practical solutions to new or unique problems

Communication

  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way

Student Experience

  • Contributes to improving or adapting provision to enhance the student experience or customer service
