The Role:

The Financial Accountant is a diverse role within the Financial Reporting team, covering a broad range of accounting and reporting responsibilities with a view to taking ownership of tax-related matters. The role involves supporting the wider finance team with monthly and annual reporting, as well as ensuring accurate day-to-day financial record-keeping and maintaining strong financial controls. In addition to core accounting duties, there is a strong focus on tax, including VAT, corporation tax, and other regulatory tax reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting

  • Supporting the production of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform key monthly financial control activities, including reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and process accounting journals, including those related to tax, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Support the external audit process, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit queries.
  • Assist in accounting policy development and provide technical accounting analysis where required.

Tax Management & Compliance

  • Take ownership of tax reporting, including VAT, corporation tax, and other applicable tax matters.
  • Prepare tax accounting calculations, VAT returns, and disclosures for financial reporting purposes.
  • Work closely with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with UK tax regulations.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the impact on the bank's financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely submission of tax filings and payments.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and Financial Instrument accounting.
  • ACA or ACCA qualified - 2 years PQE.
  • A keen interest in developing tax expertise, becoming the go-to person for VAT, corporation tax, and other tax matters within the finance team.
  • Understanding of financial controls and regulatory reporting requirements for banks.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.

Desirable knowledge & Experience:

  • Additional tax qualifications (e.g. CTA) or significant experience in tax compliance and reporting.
  • Experience working within the financial services or banking sector, with a strong understanding of the regulatory environment.
