Job Description

We are looking for a competent and pro-active Financial Controller to join our B2B and Health divisions, supporting 2 agencies - Nelson Bostock and Health Unlimited. The Financial Controller will be a strong number 2 to support the Finance Director in running the day to day finance, improving efficiencies, productivity and processes.

This is a commercially focused role and requires strong reporting, commercial, analytical and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be ACCA/CIMA qualified and will have experience in a marketing, PR or media agency.

This is a 12 month maternity leave cover contract to start April 2025. It is a hybrid position which for us means a mix of working from home and our offices in Soho, London.

Key Duties: Accounting and Financial Management
  • Overseeing and review of management accounts
  • Consolidation of reporting for Division
  • Prepare and manage all Group Reporting
  • Provide detailed variance analysis and commentary to key reports
  • Management of all ledgers, P&L and B/S according to GAAP and IFRS standards and applied regulations
  • Implementing and maintaining strong financial controls and processes
  • B/S reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules
  • Manage Month end / Year End close process
  • Setting up and improving internal management reporting
  • Managing Payroll and Staff costs / Freelance schedules
  • Managing PAYE, VAT, Pension payments and PSA and P11d compliance
  • Approving Payments and Staff expenses
  • Managing Internal and External audits
Forecasting and Commercial
  • Business partnering with business directors and account leads on revenue forecasting, client profitability and resource utilisation
  • Provide commercial and financial support to the teams (set ups, billing, scoping, client queries)
  • Preparation and consolidation of divisional forecasts
  • Client profitability reporting and management, review with teams and FD
  • Resource Forecasting support - longer term forecast vs Revenue and analysis of key margins
  • Bi-Weekly Revenue Forecast submission to the Group
  • Financial Process and Commercial training for the agency
Productivity and Process Improvements
  • Initiate and implement financial processes improvements
  • Working closely with Group Finance on standardising and optimising one set of processes across the Group
  • Optimising best use of Workbook and automating reporting processes
  • Ensure efficient and high standard ways of working are adhered to across the department
  • Provide insights and solutions in resolving underperformance vs set KPIs
  • Provide ad hoc support and analysis to FD / MD in improving of processes and performance
  • Build strong relationship with Client services Teams, SSC and wider Group
Working Capital
  • Managing company cashflow and working capital
  • Oversee management of WIP, Debtors, Accrued Revenue
  • Oversee Billing and AP processes
  • Ensuring PO process compliance
  • Thorough cost control and management
Team Management
  • Manage team of 2 - Commercial Finance Assistants
  • Financial training and support
Minimum Requirements:
  • ACCA/CIMA Qualified
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Media / PR / Agency sector experience
  • Hands on, pro-active approach
  • Can-do and solutions focused attitude
  • Demonstrable experience setting, improving and maintaining strong processes and controls
  • Commercial mind set
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills on different levels
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Strong systems experience and skills
  • Advanced Excel skills (lookups, sumifs, pivot tables, etc), Power BI
