Job Description

Financial Controller required for market leader in the sales and distribution sector.

This is an opportunity for a high performing Financial Controller to join a leading business during an exciting period.

Whilst reporting into the Director of Finance and managing a small team, you will focus on the overall reporting for the business aligned with the Group processes and strategy.

This represents the perfect role for a hands-on senior Finance Manager looking for the chance to play a significant role in the ongoing future and development of the business and to leave a legacy on the quality of the Financial Control.

Key accountabilities and objectives include:
  • Team Leadership: Leading the financial control team, coaching to be a high-performing team.
  • Process Improvement: Step-changing the ways of working and processes, so we have reliable and resilient financial reporting, bringing structured and innovative thinking.
  • Financial Controls: Creating a working environment which fosters openness and transparency in financial reporting, with strong checks and balances in place to ensure integrity in all reporting.
  • Financial Reporting: Delivering monthly and annual financial reporting in a timely and accurate manner, in line with group timetable and accounting guidelines, supportive of one-way reporting. Fostering strong internal controls which lead to simpler year-end audits and working closely with group finance.
  • Strengthening quality and rigour of reporting on P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow.
  • Audit: Leading on the year-end close and audit, setting clear approach, timetable, and guidelines, delivering on time with robust controls, and managing the external audit relationship.
  • Tax: Acting as an expert in local tax policies, operating compliantly whilst optimising tax payments.
  • Liquidity: Oversight of cash forecasting for the Flowers and Produce business, identifying optimal SCF usage levels, providing robust and controlled cash management.
  • Risk: Championing risk management within the business unit, educating and coaching the wider teams, operating with a robust risk framework and live set of understood business risks, and driving behaviour of resolving systemic issues in pragmatic ways. Includes managing insurance policies to mitigate risks.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as required.

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong Finance Manager/Financial Controller with strong leadership skills combined with the ability to meet deadlines and continuously improve processes.
