Our Client is looking for a Fluidic System Engineer with a focus on Electric Propulsion systems to join their growing team.
They are a UK-based Electric Propulsion company with many years of experience in the design, development and production of cutting-edge electric propulsion systems for a diverse range of applications. Projects range from early R&D to high levels of maturity flight systems and cover a range of technologies.
ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will take responsibility for managing fluidic system requirements, interfaces, validating and integrating the Flight Management Systems (FMSs) developed by subcontractors, working on full Electric Propulsion system verification and testing from the fluidic systems side, all supporting the development of advanced electric propulsion systems.
Additionally, you will contribute to the design and operation of Fluidic Ground Support Equipment (FGSE) for test campaigns and pre-launch activities, in line with the verification and qualification strategies you will develop.
This is a key technical role in the organisation, requiring a combination of deep technical expertise, hands-on experience and a collaborative mindset. You will be joining a highly skilled team with a variety of backgrounds from large aerospace companies to academia.
- Manage and own fluidic system requirements
- Perform fluid dynamics analyses, including pressure drop, flow rate calculations, and thermal effects
- Develop and maintain system schematics, design documentation and technical specifications
- Support the integration of fluidic systems with spacecraft electric propulsion systems, ensuring seamless operation
- Design and build FGSE for fluidic system testing and pre-launch propellant handling
- Conduct pressure testing, leak testing and functional checks of FGSE and spacecraft systems
- Establish and enforce safety protocols for handling high-pressure systems and hazardous materials
- Participate in the commissioning, operation and maintenance of FGSE during test campaigns
- Define and execute test plans for fluidic systems and components conducted at propulsion system level, including functional and environmental testing (e.g., thermal-vacuum, vibration)
- Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues during system testing and operation
- Ensure all testing activities comply with ESA and ECSS standards and customer requirements
- Work closely with propulsion engineers, systems engineers and testing teams to meet project objectives
- Prepare detailed RFP/Q's, taking top level system requirements and tailor to fluidic system and identify key suppliers
- Contribute to written internal proposals with the focus on the fluidic system requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to source and qualify fluidic components
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including customers and project partners
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in fluidic system design, testing, and integration in the space industry
- Experience with electric propulsion technologies and propellant management systems
- Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and propulsion system fundamentals
- Familiarity with ECSS standards and their application to spacecraft systems
- Hands-on experience with testing high-pressure fluidic systems and FGSE
- Knowledge of contamination control and cleaning protocols for fluidic systems
- Practical understanding of spacecraft integration and testing processes
- Eligibility to work in the UK or meet the requirements for work visa sponsorship
- This role requires occasional travel to customer or test sites and candidates must hold a valid driver's license and a passport
- Certification or training in high-pressure systems or hazardous material handling
- Proficiency in using analysis tools (e.g. ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB) and CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
- Experience on flight programmes
- Experience with subcontractor management
This is a full time position in the UK.
