The Opportunity

Arup's design and engineering skills shape a full spectrum of water solutions. We see water in context. From delivering water infrastructure to advising on natural catchments, we consider commercial, economic, environmental and social implications.

Arup's global reach and keen insight into the entire water cycle, and our practical experience in contrasting climates and conditions, brings oversight to our work in water - including infrastructure design and engineering, asset management, flood mitigation, sustainable water management, water strategies and research.

All-round thinking is the product of our specialist water engineers, project managers, management consultants and environmental and water scientists working seamlessly together - and in partnership with clients.

Water Engineer/Consultant

Available location: Birmingham

Arup's water team has wide-ranging skills spanning advisory and specialist technical services. Key areas we work in include hydrology, hydraulic modelling, catchment and flood risk management, drainage design, asset management, and climate change studies. We are looking for candidates interested in any elements of water to support in any of these areas of work. A degree in a relevant water-focused discipline; geography, science, engineering, or equivalent is required.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  1. Enthusiasm for a career in Water, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of our sector and work.
  2. Minimum of a Bachelor's in Water, Process Engineering, Civil and MEICA Engineering and/or Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geophysics, OR;
  3. Masters or post-graduate Degree in a similar Water-related discipline.
  4. Studying, or have studied, a course accredited by ICE, CIWEM or equivalent.
  5. A good understanding of the theoretical approach and practical application within the Water sector.
  6. Possess a strong working knowledge of common software and digital tools, and demonstrate an ability to learn new software within a working environment.
  7. Additional experience with coding languages, digital development, and use of specialist software would be an advantage.
  8. Have an analytical thought process.
  9. Contribute to improve our existing ways of working; new ideas, tools, process.
