Job Introduction
The BBC is seeking to appoint a Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (Workforce). Reporting to our Chief Talent & Inclusion Officer, the role will be responsible for leading the implementation of the workforce diversity, inclusion and belonging strategy, and overseeing the metrics, programmes and initiatives that enable an inclusive workplace culture where everyone feels they can belong. This role will be responsible for offering deep expertise, thought leadership and programme management in order to build on success to date, evolving to meet the needs of the current and future workforce.
Main Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to implement and deliver the BBC's workforce diversity, inclusion and belonging strategy.
- Lead a team of specialist diversity, inclusion and belonging practitioners, setting direction and providing guidance and steering to project design and delivery.
- Partner with senior leadership and HR teams to embed inclusive practices into recruitment, retention, development and engagement initiatives.
- Act as a strategic advisor to leaders, providing expert guidance on embedding diversity, inclusion and belonging principles into decision-making and policies.
- Partner with data and analytics teams to ensure the effective reporting and analysis of diversity, inclusion and belonging metrics in order to drive accountability for progress and to inform strategic direction.
- Design, implement and oversee strategic programmes that enhance workforce representation and belonging and ensure effective measurement in place to assess and demonstrate impact.
- Ensure effective business partnering with BBC divisions to share best practices and to ensure programmatic interventions are implemented as per the needs of their populations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant diversity and inclusion legislation and public commitments, and translate these into relevant policies and processes.
- Ensure that the diversity, inclusion and belonging centre of expertise remains up to date with best practices, and take responsibility for sharing these across the BBC in order that colleagues stay informed and educated.
- Partner with Divisional Directors and HR Directors to deliver the D&I programme and report regularly on progress to BBC Executive Committee and Board.
- Work closely with Head of Creative Diversity to ensure identification of collaboration opportunities and to bring together a unified experience of diversity, inclusion and belonging at the BBC.
- Take responsibility for bringing the BBC's workforce diversity, inclusion and belonging efforts to life through official reporting and through organisational campaigns to build brand and reputation.
- Provide insight to the business around inclusion trends, areas of opportunity, future-focused thinking and competitive programmes and practices.
- Provide inspirational leadership to a team of high performing specialists who support enterprise-wide D&I programmes and interventions and business area specific programmes.
- Develop/manage relationships with recognised trade unions, employee representation groups, other external partners/professional organisations and networks.
- Manage the budget and prudently control resources within that budget so that financial targets are met.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and experience:
- Deep knowledge and insight in the area of diversity and inclusion including current trends and future insights and their contribution to business success.
- As an expert in their field, they will provide professional leadership and act as role model to their teams and colleagues.
- Adept at managing numerous, diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous competing priorities.
- Skilled in data-informed decision making, where prioritisation decisions are rooted in delivering impactful organisational outcomes.
- Experience of operating at a senior level in the public sector and/or dealing with external/governmental stakeholders.
- A convincing and persuasive communicator, required to modify beliefs and opinions of teams, as well as senior stakeholders, able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC departments, and external agencies/stakeholders where required.
- Act as the conduit to effective communication and influence down the management hierarchy.
- Broad and comprehensive understanding of all BBC's regulatory and contractual obligations as they pertain to their functional area.
- Extensive experience in managing budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
- Ability to operate in a politically sensitive environment open to public scrutiny.

Band: F
Contract type: Permanent
Location: Flexible - based in any UK BBC hub with hybrid working - some travel to other bases required.
Salary range: Up to £125,000 dependent on skills, experience and internal benchmarking.
