Head of Innovation Commercial Development

We are seeking a visionary and results driven Head of Innovation Commercial Development to accelerate impact to patients and commercial value creation within our commercial partnerships and health technology development portfolio.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for execution of the commercial agenda and strategy within the commercial innovation portfolio, working closely with the Associate Director for Commercial Innovation and Head of IP Commercialisation to maximise the value and impact within the NHS hospitals rapid transformational environment to facilitate greater outcomes for patients and improved patient experience.
The newly formed role within the Centre of Innovation, Transformation and Improvement involves strategic planning, developing and growing a team of Commercial Managers and Innovation Consultants, leadership and change management to enable a systematic solution within our organisation to create an innovation growth friendly ecosystem both within the Trust and between the Trust and our academic and industry partners.
Main duties of the jobThe role will report into the Associate Director for Commercial Innovation and will oversee the following areas within the commercial development team function:
- Optimising Commercial partnerships portfolio: building upon our relationships with commercial partners, negotiating and executing commercial agreements with external collaborators and industry partners, and aligning results to the strategic commercial business objectives of the Trust and our product development pipeline.
- Technology co-development and adoption: Management of the Innovation Consulting team, overseeing clear, user friendly technology adoption pathways by coordinating internal functions across different teams, to maximise engagement and generation of collaboration with industry and internally generated problem exploration and resolution in co-developing new solutions through partnerships with industry.
The Centre for Innovation, Transformation and Improvement (CITI) at Guy's and St Thomas's was founded in 2021 under the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE).
The DCE is the Executive Director responsible for leading and developing the Trust's strategy for innovation and improvement, which aims to develop an ecosystem that encourages the acceleration of new knowledge and capabilities and learn from best practices globally, to deliver improvements in patient care at scale.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications- Minimum five years of relevant commercial and or finance experience
- Educated to master's degree level or equivalent experience working at a senior level
- Evidence of progressive and continuing professional development
- Formal qualification in commerce or and/or equivalent business/finance discipline
- Experience NHS Trust and or University medical technology commercialisation
- Experience in handling complex spin-outs and/or strategic partnership negotiations
- Significant experience of working with the healthcare technology sector, working with innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and industry partners to deliver successful commercial outcomes
- Experience of securing investment for collaborations and/or spin out companies
- Experience of working with early-stage businesses
- Experience of negotiating and structuring complex commercial legal agreements
- Experience of managing a broad range of complex activities, with a mixed and varied workload of conflicting priorities
- Experience of recruiting, developing and leading a team, to deliver a varied commercial portfolio, including motivating, developing, coaching and reviewing performance.
- Excellent knowledge of methods of commercial structures and healthcare technology development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to negotiate with and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to synthesise complex information from a wide range of sources.
- Ability to manage budgets for projects, monitoring expenditure and ensuring they are delivered on time and in budget.
