Main duties of the job

The Head of Medical Workforce & Medical Education is the Trust's authoritative expert within the field of medical human resources management and medical education and will provide advice as such. They will ensure Trust compliance with statutory, Health Education, GMC and Deanery requirements and provide specialist advice for the Trust on medical staffing terms and conditions.

The postholder will be accountable for the Trust-wide development and implementation of national initiatives, developing associated strategies and ensuring the Trust has policies, procedures and systems in place to effectively and efficiently manage the medical workforce.

The post holder is responsible for the implementation of best employment practices and strategies in relation to all the Medical Workforce, including day to day leadership ensuring the provision of a high quality, customer focused Medical Workforce & Medical Education Service.

The postholder will use their expert knowledge & experience of medical workforce terms & conditions, national strategies, contract negotiations, policies and procedures to expertly manage the medical workforce & education service to the Trust.

The postholder will provide authoritative expert advice to the Medical Director & other colleagues to support the forward planning, modernisation, engagement & performance of the medical workforce. They will develop initiatives that create & add value to business and performance of the Trust.

  • Thorough understanding of Medical Education, Medical Revalidation, Job Planning, Consultant Appraisal and Junior Doctors terms & Conditions.
  • Evidence of experience in dealing with complex Medical Employee Relation cases in line with Maintaining High Professional Standards.
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience of working as a key stakeholder on projects.
  • Previous experience of Staff side negotiation meetings.
  • Experience of Policy writing and development.
  • Budget management responsibilities.
  • Ability to chair meetings.
  • Ability to analyse data to identify trends.
  • Able to build positive relationships with managers at all levels and trade union representatives.
