Role Summary:

The Head of Regulatory - Regional Counsel will take a leadership role in overseeing legal matters within a specific region, providing expert guidance, strategic direction, and comprehensive legal support to the organization's operations. This position involves overseeing legal operations within the region and collaborating with senior leadership to uphold legal compliance, enhance risk management, and provide strategic legal guidance.

  1. Work with a team of legal professionals within the regional hub, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  2. Provide strategic legal advice and counsel to the business and cross-functional teams on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, regulatory compliance, employment law, intellectual property, and litigation.
  3. Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of complex legal documents, agreements, and contracts, maintaining alignment with business objectives and legal standards.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business initiatives and develop and implement effective strategies.
  5. Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry developments to proactively address legal issues impacting regional operations.
  6. Manage and coordinate legal disputes and litigation, liaising with external counsel when necessary.
  7. Develop regional legal policies, procedures, and compliance programs to ensure consistent and effective legal practices.
  8. Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis, providing insights and recommendations to inform decision-making processes.
  9. Drive training and educational programs for internal teams to enhance their understanding of legal issues and risk management within the region.

Requirements and Preferences:

  1. Legal Expertise: Extensive knowledge of corporate law, regulatory compliance, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, employment law, and other legal matters relevant to the region.
  2. Regional Regulatory Framework: In-depth understanding of local, state, and regional laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  3. Risk Management: Strong background in identifying and mitigating legal risks associated with business and operations.
  4. Corporate Governance: Knowledge of best practices in corporate governance, including board management, fiduciary duties, and shareholder relations.
  5. Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Experience in handling litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution processes.
  6. Transactional Experience: Familiarity with negotiating, drafting, and reviewing complex legal documents such as contracts, joint ventures, and partnership agreements.
  7. Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and financial regulations as they pertain to legal matters.

  2. Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills for managing contracts, settlements, and other legal agreements.
  3. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  4. Leadership & Team Management: Proven leadership skills with experience managing legal teams, mentoring junior attorneys, and collaborating across departments.
  5. Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities to evaluate complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  6. Decision-Making: Ability to make sound judgments under pressure, often with incomplete information.
  7. Project Management: Skills in managing multiple legal projects simultaneously, with a focus on meeting deadlines and objectives.
  8. Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in reviewing legal documents and contracts.
  9. Adaptability: Flexibility to handle evolving legal challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  10. Business Acumen: Understanding of the broader business context, with the ability to align legal strategies with organizational goals.
  11. Legal Qualification: Must be a qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK, with an active practicing certificate.
  12. Experience: At least 8-15 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally gained within a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a focus on corporate law, regulatory compliance, or commercial law.
  13. Education: Bachelor's degree in law (LLB) or equivalent; a master's degree (LLM) or additional legal qualifications (e.g., LPC/BPTC) preferred.
