Head of Solution Engineering

As the Head of Solution Engineering, you will lead a team of 3 experts, crafting technical and product solutions that align with merchant needs. Acting as a bridge between our revenue, product, and engineering teams, you'll ensure our merchants experience a seamless journey from onboarding to full-scale deployment. This role combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, product knowledge, sense of business and a commitment to merchant success.
You'll be attached to the Product and Engineering department, and report directly to the CTO. Your day-to-day collaboration will include partnering with Revenue stakeholders, Product Managers, and Engineering Managers.
A few challenges you'll have to address:
- Build scalable internal and external processes to support the growing base of merchant customers.
- Shape the Solution Engineer role at Alma, ensuring it empowers internal teams as a facilitator, and demonstrate a strong business vision and deep understanding of merchant concerns.
- Find the optimal ways to gather high-quality business insights, using them to influence the product strategy.
- Transition the team to a more data-driven approach, to better allocate the team members' efforts.
- Lead, mentor, and grow the Solution Engineering team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Structure the ways of working with the stakeholders, establishing processes in line with clear responsibilities and efficiency.
- Engage in high-level technical discussions with partners, translating them into actionable inputs for product teams.
- Influence priorities to keep Revenue, Product, Engineering and the company's strategy aligned.
- Maintain positive relationships by addressing stakeholder concerns while standing firm on key decisions.
- Enable the revenue teams with the technical or product knowledge and tools to effectively present Alma's solutions.
- Translate merchant feedback into insights to drive product improvement.
- Provide occasional hands-on assistance outside of pre-sales, for example during the initial rollout of Alma's solutions.
You will be the ideal candidate if you have:
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in a Solution Engineering role, pre-sales, or technical consulting, including 5 years experience with managing or mentoring Solution Engineers.
- Strong technical background with a solid understanding of APIs and SaaS products.
- Experience in fintech, PSP, BNPL, or e-commerce CMS is a clear advantage.
- Solid project management skills to align expectations between teams.
- Keep cool under pressure, and can redirect stakeholders toward alternative solutions or timelines.
- Exceptional communication skills, know how to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build long-term trust partnerships.
