Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Head of Treaty Exposure Management to join a leading Exposure Management team at one of Lloyd's largest syndicates. The successful candidate will be an experienced exposure manager, very familiar with the US, Australasian, and European perils market, as well as non-nat cat exposure management.

S/he will support underwriters ("UW") in our reinsurance lines of business, providing technical advice, support, and exposure management for the entire treaty team. S/he will take ownership of integrating new processes and modelling methods, and work closely with the wider Group Exposure Management team to develop methods to reach corporate exposure management goals. S/he will manage and mentor 6+ CAT risk analysts in the treaty team. Some of the key questions defining the role are:

  • How do we as an exposure management team use models to drive more value and profit in Canopius?
  • How do we improve current processes and tools to support the management needs of a growing reinsurance practice?
  • How do we provide market leading analytics?
  • How do we manage exposures to avoid unanticipated losses and encourage the practices of a diverse profitable portfolio?

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Reinsurance Management team, across different regions, to ensure close communication across the team, consistent application of view of risk and contribute to cross-region analytics.
  • Develop new tools to streamline the exposure management process and build out smarter analytics.
  • Maintain relationships with underwriters to integrate underwriting and exposure management frameworks and goals - this involves confident and timely delivery of analytics and the ability to explain how these analytics can help drive risk selection.
  • Create a narrative based on the modelling data and other sources to effectively provide a valuable summary of a certain risk and give advice to Underwriters on the strengths and weaknesses of both the data and the model's ability to provide meaningful results. This includes communicating the concept of uncertainty.
  • Communicate risk metrics to key stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a Cat Modelling role - Reinsurance experience and RMS experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience managing highly technical teams.
  • Proven track record of working in highly dynamic environments, juggling priorities and factoring clients' requirements.
  • Highly numerate and logical - strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is required.
  • Excellent business communication skills - ability to influence, negotiate, and listen.
