Job Outline
- Support a robust and sustainable health and safety transition across multiple sites, whilst overcoming cultural and behavioural challenges.
- Monitor and steer progress whilst identifying the impact of safety processes and practices, ensuring these are implemented to the highest possible standards.
- Build rapport and strengthen relationships across the Halfords Group to empower & promote colleagues to take ownership of health & safety.
- Continually challenge management and associated colleagues to stay focused on business-critical risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of all health & safety strategies, policies, standards, and procedures throughout the Halfords Group.
- Support and play an active role in delivering the Halfords Group Health & Safety Roadmap.
- Undertake audits and workplace/area inspections to proactively identify areas for improvement in health & safety management practices.
- Provide written reports via inspection, visible safety leadership (VSL), and monthly summaries to assist Halfords in improving its overall health & safety performance.
- Conduct investigations for all accidents, incidents, significant events, and safety concerns to identify root causes and preventative measures.
- Provide competent and expert advice on health & safety matters as required.
- Prioritise and respond to safety concerns identified by colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
- Liaise with enforcement agencies alongside the Senior Health & Safety Business Partner and Group Head of Health & Safety.
- Contribute to the design, development, production, and delivery of training materials, ensuring quality meets the specific requirements of the Group.
- Assist the Group Head of Health & Safety and Senior Health & Safety Business Partner in maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Identify, promote, and raise awareness of 'Good Practice' throughout the Halfords Group.
- Liaise and support the Halfords Group on Employee and Public Liability matters, maintaining confidentiality.
- Assist management with site improvement plans for continuous improvement in health & safety.
- Support and participate in department, corporate, individual, and sponsored projects.
- Represent the Halfords Group positively.
- Ensure a healthy and safe work-life balance while working for the Halfords Group.
Key Skills & Experiences
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health & safety advisor or business partner position.
- Experience in a multi-site and business function role.
- Proven record of promoting a positive health & safety performance culture.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with internal & external stakeholders at a management level.
- Good understanding of PUWER and LOLER.
- Flexible and able to work independently.
- Strong organisational & planning skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- NEBOSH Diploma or Safety Diploma / NVQ 6.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- Automotive sector experience.
- Experience in behavioral-based safety.
- Self-driven to succeed.
- Claims defensibility trained or considerable experience.
- Experience in manual handling and fire risk assessments.
- First Aid trained.
- IOSH Membership (Associate / Member).
