Guy's and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit 7 Healthcare security officers and 2 Healthcare team leaders, to join an industry-wide respected and diverse team. GSTT is one of London's most famous hospitals and prominent London landmarks - largely due to St Thomas' Hospital location opposite the Houses of Parliament and Guy's Hospital next to London Bridge station and opposite the Shard.

The healthcare security officers are paid at NHS Band 4 and the Healthcare security team leaders are paid at NHS Band 5.

Shift patterns are 4 on 4 off, 12-hour shifts spanning days, nights and weekends.

Extensive training will be provided to all successful candidates.

Main duties of the job

Your role is pivotal in upholding a secure and enjoyable atmosphere for the security teams in the Hospitals we serve. You will be responsible for managing the security team both for emergency response and daily operational tasks ensuring full compliance with all safety and security protocols. Your role is essential in preventing incidents and handling any situations that may arise with professionalism and efficiency.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. Day-to-day administration, instruction and supervision of Healthcare Security officers whilst they are performing their duty.
  2. Supervise the performance and quality of the Security Officers and address relevant training to management.
  3. Ensure that the team maintain all equipment and uniform supplied to you in a clean and presentable manner, full uniform must be worn at all times while on duty in line with the uniform protocol.
  4. Lead on the security response to all fire alert calls, taking action in line with the Trust fire procedures, to minimise the risk to life and assets.
  5. Attend and liaise to calls for security assistance from Departmental or ward staff or Mental Health teams to assist with patients being held or assessed under the mental health Act.
  6. Assist in the induction and training of all new security Healthcare Security Officer using the Local Induction Checklist.
  7. Assist Management with Investigations under the Trust Disciplinary Policy.
  8. Ensure correct Greenwich Mean Times are aligned to all security systems clock times to security systems, including CCTV, Access Control and Car Parking database.
  9. Manage unplanned staff absences to ensure the roster operates with the minimum use of overtime and staff bank/agency.
  10. Ensure that the security staffs are fully conversant with the operation of all fire and major incident instructions and exercises.
  11. Report any security defects or omissions throughout the Estate in a timely and accurate manner and keeping records to share with management.
Person specification Qualifications and Training
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and restraint techniques
  • Minimum of Physical intervention level 2
  • Security related qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • SIA Security officer licence
  • Level 3 security supervisors' course
  • First Aid
  • CPD Courses attended
Experience
  • Experience of staff management
  • Substantial previous security related experience
  • Ability to teach/train groups
  • Must have clear and imaginative ideas on how to improve customer satisfaction
  • Ability to remain calm and lead in a highly pressurised situation
  • Basic knowledge of criminal law
  • Managing security staff in a challenging environment
  • Customer service background in large organisation
  • Knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence ACT 1984 (PACE)
