Job overview

Due to the expansion of our cardiac services, we are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Highly Specialised Cardiac Echocardiographer to complement our Cardiac Physiology team here at University Hospitals Dorset.

We are a forward-thinking team that consistently strives to improve and develop our services and encourage all team members to actively engage in this process. Continued professional development is supported through weekly departmental meetings and MDT imaging reviews as well as regular attendance at national conferences. We support a four-day working week at UHD in order to provide an improved work-life balance for our staff. Standard hours are 08:00-18:00; however, this can be discussed.

The successful candidate will hold BSE accreditation, be enthusiastic and passionate about improving patient-centred care, and be motivated about providing in-house training for junior physiologists. Clinical skills in either cardiac rhythm management or PCI are desirable but not essential.

This post will include Saturday working on a rotational basis.

This role requires a BSc in Cardiac Physiology or BTEC HNC or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

We are extremely proud of our Echocardiography departments across our two sites. As well as standard transthoracic studies, we also perform 3D echocardiograms, bubble and contrast studies, and stress echo procedures as well as supporting the transoesophageal echo service.

Person specification Qualifications

• BSE Accreditation
• BSc in Cardiac Physiology or BTEC HNC or equivalent
• RCCP registered

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' experience as a post-registration Cardiac Physiologist
• Experience in 3D Echocardiography, contrast studies, and bubble studies.
• Experience in training and assessment of junior staff and other medical professionals.
• Fully competent in carrying out full study BSE echocardiograms including strain assessments and assisting in transoesophageal echocardiograms.
• Experience in Stress Echocardiography
• Experience in carrying out yearly appraisals for team members
• Experience in physiologist-led specialist clinics

Knowledge

• Able to assess normal and abnormal investigations and act appropriately.
• Computer literate and understand the application of IT to clinical investigations.
• Knowledge of NHS computer management systems including; Tomcat, eDM, eCamis, PACS.

Interpersonal Skills

• Able to demonstrate high level of written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work as part of a team but be dynamic and self-motivated.

Other requirements

• Sufficient stamina and health to be capable of long periods of walking, bending, standing, sitting, moving, handling, and positioning of patients and equipment.
• Capable of dealing with distressing and emotional incidents on a regular basis including working with terminally ill patients and upset/distraught patients or members of staff.

• Model good behaviour and acceptable ways of communicating
• Able to challenge unacceptable behaviour

Language requirement

• Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
