Inflammatory Bowel Disease Biologics Clinical Nurse Specialist The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 IBD Biologics Nurse to work within the Gastroenterology Department. You will regularly work cross site within the Trust in collaboration with the IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pharmacists and Gastroenterologists.

The IBD Specialist Nursing Team provides information, education and support to patients with IBD, supporting self-management where appropriate, but providing rapid access to advice, treatment and care as a clinical priority.

The IBD Nursing Team supports a telephone service for patients and holds independent nurse-led clinics. The Team also offers inpatient IBD Nurse support, coordinates the management of patients receiving biologic therapies, and facilitates and follows up the multi-disciplinary team meetings.

You should have experience in providing care to patients with a diagnosis of Inflammatory bowel disease, with the ability to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care. It is essential for you to possess excellent interpersonal skills along with a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively and efficiently independently or as part of a team. You should also have an interest in further developing your pharmacology knowledge, and a willingness to engage in research and audit.

Main duties of the job

The biologics specialist nurse role will have an overview of the management of IBD, with particular emphasis on patients requiring biologic/immuno-modulator therapy for their inflammatory bowel disease.

They will be responsible for the provision of nurse-led clinics, inpatient services, and the maintenance of the advice line for this client group. In addition, the post holder will contribute to service development through education, research and audit.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • RGN
  • Specialist Inflammatory Bowel Disease or equivalent relevant experience
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Specialist Inflammatory Bowel Disease Course E.g. Gastroenterology (Essential for band 7)
  • Advanced physical assessment skills and course
  • Non-medical prescribing course
Knowledge, Behaviors and Experience
  • Post-registration experience within the specialty or equivalent experience
  • Proven relevant experience within the gastroenterology service in relation to IBD.
  • An awareness and understanding of national and local issues relevant to the specialty.
  • Involvement in Nursing audit and Research
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease needs
  • Experience of developing policies/protocols (Essential for band 7)
Skills
  • Knowledge of current initiatives and developments related to the specialty
  • Ability to organize, plan and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting within and outside the Trust.
  • Ability to work across both Trust sites with a current valid driving license
  • Knowledge of performance measures relating to the specialty
  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Microsoft Office PC and SEMA Pas skills.
