Job IntroductionWe're looking for a Plans to Operations Leader to join us at Joint Operational Meteorology and Oceanographic Centre (JOMOC) to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our JOMOC Land Air - Plans to Operations Leader, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
Our opportunity is part time equivalent to 18.5 hours per week as part of a job share. We are highly likely to run this as 'week on - week off' although there may be some flexibility on this. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.
Whilst this is a temporary part time role until March 2026, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent full-time position should the vacancy arise and the incumbent agree to it. We will also look to create a reserve pool to fill future permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise over the next twelve months.

Your world of expertise
As a JOMOC Land Air - Plans to Operations Leader, your purpose is to lead the provision of global on-site embedded and remote environmental services to enable the UK and allied armed forces to gain operational and tactical advantage during deployments.
You will work primarily from Northwood Headquarters at least 60% approximately within 'normal working hours' Monday to Friday which must align with user and team meeting/ briefing days which are subject to change. There is a surge requirement to work 100% of the role from Northwood Headquarters at short notice as requirement dictates.
- To lead JOMOC Land Air liaison with endorsed defence service users, in particular with Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) and Joint Force Air Component (JFAC), to understand deployed requirements and to translate those into effective service plans in a joined-up approach across teams.
- To set or adhere to JOMOC Land Air priorities taking into account service user, people, resource, technological, quality, business continuity and other considerations.
- To lead and manage the JOMOC Land Air - Senior Operational Meteorologists supporting their wellbeing and enabling them to reach their objectives and personal development goals.
- To lead identification of patterns, lessons and opportunities to guide continuous improvement for JOMOC Land Air, supporting the development of new capabilities.
- To direct outreach activities, identify, develop, recruit and onboard interested individuals for the JOMOC Land Air - Senior Operational Meteorologist roles.
- To maintain skills and experience required to cover JOMOC Land Air - Senior Operational Meteorologist role.

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:
- To be a UK National (not dual national) and hold current DV or to be willing to go through the DV clearance process following which there will need to be a successful result.
- You have a range of operational forecasting experience.
- You are an expert by nature by drawing requirements from users and translating those into effective service plans whilst leading a process of continuous improvement.
- You work better together by influencing a variety of stakeholders to ensure a joined-up approach across teams.
- You live it and breathe it by prioritising workloads, taking into account a variety of factors.
- You are a force for good by inspiring and empowering others to achieve their objectives, whilst supporting their well-being.
