Job Overview

Parry Ward is looking for highly motivated and committed individuals to join the endocrinology team as a Junior Sister.

Do you aspire to lead by example and are committed to providing care of a high standard? As a Junior Sister, you will be expected to lead and manage the ward with the support of the Senior Sister, and you will have opportunities to build on and develop your leadership and management skills.

Parry Ward is a 28-bedded specialist endocrinology and general medicine ward caring for a variety of patients with many different conditions. We look after a range of medical patients with various conditions and work closely with multiple professional teams to provide holistic care and positive patient outcomes.

We are committed to providing compassionate care for our patients while enjoying our work. The nursing team includes two nurse practitioners as well as specialist nurses and clinicians, who support the care of patients on the ward and help staff develop their clinical skills.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing incorporating the Named Nurse initiative.
  2. To proactively co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with RUH Discharge Policy, ensuring involvement of other agencies as necessary.
  3. To promote a patient-focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
  4. To promote and maintain effective communication within the ward/department, GPs, community staff, and other hospitals regarding ongoing patient care.
  5. To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.
  6. To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care, through effective monitoring, mentoring, clinical supervision, and reflective practice.
  7. To demonstrate effective budgeting practice, exercising care and economy, supported by appropriate documentation.
  8. To develop partnerships with Finance & HR department and divisional management teams in order to gain an understanding of resource management processes and have representation in service development issues.

Person Specification Knowledge & Experience
  • Regular experience of taking charge and delegating duties and problem-solving throughout shifts.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant clinical experience at Band 5.
  • Understanding of the basic principles of effective budgetary management.
  • Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff management.
