Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Lead Accountant for our client, a local government organisation in Exeter. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive expert accountancy support for the organisation as a whole, including its company interests, to deliver the corporate financial functions required to run a successful organisation. They will be the accounting lead of one of the following areas: General Fund; Housing (including Housing Revenue Account); Commercial; Capital (including treasury management). This is initially a 6-month contract with the possibility to extend after that date. This role is hybrid working with 2 days per week in the office.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:- Produce the annual budgets and support in respect of annual business plans and medium-term financial plans.
- Budget monitoring and reporting to Committee/Boards.
- Support the production of the Final Accounts.
- Statutory returns.
- Treasury management and bank liaison.
- Benchmarking.
- External Audit liaison.
- Capital financing.
- Attend committee, Board and other meetings representing Finance.
- Undertake technical research into new government initiatives, emerging accounting standards and other changes and advising senior management as appropriate.
- Assist with benchmarking exercises, project evaluations, company financial appraisals within agreed timescales.
- Manage the work and performance of Officers reporting to a Lead Accountant post, including mentoring and training requirements.
- Manage strategic, corporate and unit projects as required within agreed timescales.
- CCAB qualified.
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
- Good knowledge of financial accounting techniques and methods.
- Commercial accounting experience (Desirable).
- Good understanding of professional accounting standards and practices.
- A good knowledge and experience of computerised financial systems and Microsoft Office applications.
37hrs / 9:00am - 4:00pm / Monday to Friday
Pay:£31.90 per hour
Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
