About the Organisation:

National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHSScotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level. NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same - to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:

The Scottish Cancer Network (SCN) is a dedicated national resource to support and facilitate a 'Once for Scotland' approach to cancer services to assist in enabling equitable access to care and treatment across Scotland.

A key aim of the SCN is the development and management of National Clinical Management Pathways (CMPs) for all specialties. The CMPs outline the patient journey from diagnosis onwards. These describe the pan-Scotland consensus on treatment options at the various points in the patient's pathway to support shared decision making.

The SCN is seeking two clinicians for one session per week to drive forward the development of National CMPs, for which clinical consensus, ongoing improvement and equitable access will be key founding principles. Applicants are invited from those currently employed in the NHS within one of the following two clinical areas:

  1. Colorectal and anal cancers
  2. Gynaecological cancers

Development work will include contributing to the design in terms of approach and process, as well as coordinating the drafting of CMPs on behalf of a working group(s).

The Candidate:

Post holders will work with the National Clinical Lead and the National Lead Pharmacists for the SCN. They will also work as part of a working group, which may include undertaking the role of Chair. The post holder will be required to work with stakeholders to understand existing approaches and governance and contribute to the drafting of one of the two aforementioned prioritised areas for national CMPs.

For each clinical area, we are looking for a clinician with strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as a good understanding of the cancer landscape and established clinical experience in one of the specified tumour areas in order to work with relevant networks and present informed approaches.

The post holder must have an ability to devise, implement and monitor a range of engagement strategies to reach consensus across a wider range of partners.

Please note that applicants for this post must currently be employed by an NHS Scotland board, registered with their professional regulator, and have the agreement of their line manager and organisation to be released for one session per week for a 12-month period. If required, a short extension may be considered where there is mutual agreement to do so.

Please note, the post holder's current employer will be reimbursed at their current rate via a Service Level Agreement. The post holder will form part of a Programme Team hosted by NSS but will not be employed by NSS. They will remain accountable to their existing employer and terms and conditions.

Candidates must be registered with their professional regulator at the time of applying.
