The Asset Delivery team is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for providing process engineering support to the AMP 8 capital delivery programme, assuring water treatment process designs prepared by Yorkshire Water's strategic planning partner and capital delivery partners, managing and updating Yorkshire Water's Design Guidance documents, and supporting the development of standard designs. The Lead Design Engineer will report to the Senior Engineer (Process - Clean Water) and will work closely with a professional team of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers. This role is a regional role and will require site visits across the Yorkshire region on an occasional basis.

Where you fit in:

As our Lead Design Engineer (Process - Clean Water) you will:

  • Provide process engineering support from project definition to detailed design and commissioning by attending key meetings, design meetings, value engineering meetings, Hazop meetings, and site visits.
  • Support the project team with the selection and development of best value solutions that are safe and reliable, and meet the treatment objectives, providing a robust challenge where appropriate.
  • Assure the outline design prepared by the strategic planning partner, and the tender design and detailed design prepared by the capital delivery partner by reviewing the key process documents such as the P&IDs, mass balance, process sizing calculations, hydraulic profile, 3D model, and control philosophy.
  • Act as a conduit for the Engineering Design Team involving the other disciplines when required and coordinating the team's response to design submissions.
  • Manage and update Yorkshire Water's Design Guidance documents, consulting key stakeholders and incorporating best practice from existing sites and learning from new schemes.
  • Support the development of standard designs in conjunction with the Engineering Design Team and supply chain.
  • Retrieve and analyse process data to support the design process.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • A degree level qualification (or equivalent) in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of water treatment processes.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a technical role in water treatment.
  • Experience of process engineering design in the water industry.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a wide business audience, and the ability to influence people.
  • Experience of working on multiple tasks to project deadlines.
  • Full valid UK driving license.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Chartered Engineer or Chartered Scientist status or working towards.
  • Experience in the application of quality procedures and document control in engineering design.
  • Experience in identifying and developing practical and innovative solutions.
