Lead Teacher - Arts

Cygnets Art School in Taunton are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and reliable new lead teacher(s) to run our classes! Please read all the information below before applying, as this is a part-time, freelance position, and may not be suitable for everyone.

Cygnets is a fine art school franchise for children, based in the UK. We teach traditional drawing, painting and sculpture, combined with unique projects; experienced teachers, and professional quality materials. Classes are run for ages 5-13 after school and weekends during term time, as well as every half term and school holiday.

The successful candidate will teach all classes (both term time and holiday) at the Taunton branch, for groups of up to sixteen students (assistants are provided for larger classes). As well as helping with the marketing of the business when required, such as flyering local schools and businesses.

Teachers are provided with all materials and a curriculum, including a step-by-step video for how to teach each project. This role would suit a creative individual with a passion for teaching, who's looking for well-paid work in the artistic industry, but with the flexibility of minimal hours that can fit around other commitments.

Term Time Hours:

Starting April each session has a paid 15mins set up and pack down time either side of the slot. Arriving on time is mandatory to allow enough time for your session.

• Wednesdays (arrive at 3.45pm) 4:00-5pm teaching (leave at 5:15pm) with a group aged 5-12yrs
• Fridays launching later in the year (arrive at 3.45pm) 4:00-5:30pm teaching (leave at 5:30pm, with a group aged 9+
• Saturdays (arrive at 9.45am) 10am-11am teaching (leave at 11:15am) with a group aged 5-12yrs

Then ongoing each term (10 weeks/term 3 terms/ year)

Holiday Hours:

Starting April Half Term 2025

• Tuesdays and Wednesdays (10:00am arrive for set up) 10:30-2pm (paid until 2.15pm for pack down)

Then ongoing each half term (3 x weeks per year); Easter Holiday (2 x weeks per year), and Summer holiday (5 x weeks per year).

You will also be requested to provide your additional hours for after school club sessions. These timings are usually from 3:30-4:30pm

Training Hours:

Training will take place after 4pm March TBC and will be held at our venue at West Monkton Village Hall. We will go over the best way to teach our classes, what you'll be teaching (an easy step by step process) You will also get paid travel to watch a class take place in our Bristol branch before you start.

Pay: - £25/ hr (please note this is paid for the length of the class and includes any preparation/ set up/ clear-up time, plus potential additional hours and income from private tuition/ classes.

Necessary Requirements:

- Strong core artistic skills in a variety of mediums

- A passion for working with children

- Excellent reliability, time-keeping and organisation

Ideal Additional Requirements

- Teaching experience

- A knowledge of the local area and connection to local schools

- Level 1 safeguarding certification

- First aid training

Please don't worry if you have not got a safeguarding certificate or first aid training as we will fund you to complete this before you start, along with applying for your enhanced DBS if you don't already have one

Exceptional creative, part time job with good earning potential £300+ a month

Notes -

You're applying to work a minimum of 1 term which is currently part time with more hours being added as the Taunton branch gets expanded.

We will train our teachers up as lead teachers, but you may initially become an Assistant Teacher on £15ph until we expand our classes where additional Teachers are required because we have a 1:8 ratio, so we will require back up teachers.
