Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a critical social science scholar to join the Centre for Public Policy Research, a friendly and vibrant research centre which sits within the School of Education, Communication and Society in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy at King's.

About the role

The successful candidate will contribute to module leadership and teaching on our BA Social Sciences and other programmes as required, undertake personal tutoring and dissertation supervision, recruit and supervise doctoral students, and conduct high quality research and knowledge exchange activities.

They will have teaching and research interests in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field, a strong interest in social in/justice and applied social science and a track record of producing high quality research publications.

The successful candidate will also have proven teaching ability, expertise in enquiry-based, participatory and critical pedagogies, and a commitment to inclusive and democratic ways of working.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • PhD qualified in relevant subject area
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong teamworking skills and a strong commitment to inclusive and democratic ways of working
  • Expertise in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field, with a strong interest in social in/justice and applied social science and an aptitude for communication across disciplines
  • Proven teaching ability and a strong interest and expertise in enquiry-based, participatory and critical pedagogies
  • Interests and a track record that would enable the candidate to contribute to module coordination and teaching on: Understanding the Social World; Civil and Political Rights; Community Engaged Learning; and Political Activism and Social Change
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to programme administration and leadership and make a broad contribution to the teaching and coordination of modules on the BA Social Sciences, including in areas beyond the candidate's immediate specialism, and to other programmes as required
  • A strong research, publications and knowledge exchange track record, with interests that complement those of existing members of the Centre for Public Policy Research
  • A research funding track record
