Your role will include counseling on competition, trade and economic sanctions issues, monitoring legal and regulatory trends and identifying future areas of competition and sanctions risk.


About the Team

This is an opportunity to be part of a global legal team that provides counsel on competition, trade and economic sanctions across Swiss Re's businesses and multiple jurisdictions.
As part of the team, you will provide pragmatic, solution-driven counsel to the business, senior management, contracts and legal and compliance colleagues.

About the Role

Your main responsibilities are to:

  1. Provide legal advice on the full range of competition law issues including behavioral, transactional and contentious issues;
  2. Serve as a subject matter expert on trade and economic sanctions laws and regulations, including providing advice to ensure compliance with US, UK, EU and Swiss regimes, and drafting and reviewing sanctions-related contractual provisions;
  3. Assess and advise on potential regulatory issues and reporting requirements;
  4. Monitor relevant legal trends and developments;
  5. Engage and manage relationships with external counsel.

As a member of Division Legal, you will also:

  1. Contribute to quarterly and annual legal reports and group wide, business unit or division projects and initiatives.
  2. Help develop efficient policies and practices to promote and maintain high legal and ethical standards.

About You

We are seeking an outstanding communicator, able to provide high quality, timely and pragmatic client service, balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of Swiss Re. High level of ethics and integrity is a must.

Education and qualifications:

• University degree and qualified lawyer admitted to practice in England & Wales or another jurisdiction within EMEA.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4+ years' post qualification experience in a financial crime legal advisory role with a specific focus on competition law and sanctions gained in a law firm and/or working as in-house counsel in a multi-national organisation.
• Prior experience of working with, and advising on, financial crime, sanctions and competition compliance frameworks, policies and processes.

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Proficiency in other languages in addition to English
