As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our people across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Banbury site.

Hours of work:

3.5 days per week on a 3 on 2 off shift (alt days / nights) 42 hours per week

What will you be doing as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer at Avara?

As a Maintenance Engineer you will optimise machinery output and product quality, and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance and efficient breakdown response in specific areas of the factory whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practice.

What will your key responsibilities as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer include?

  • When filling the role as Lead Engineer, to deputise for Engineering Shift Manager.
  • Lead teams within an area or zone.
  • Ensure the Engineering maintenance is carried out in line with the schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  • Quick and effective response to Mechanical, Electrical and PLC control breakdowns anywhere on site, identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
  • Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
  • Follow good engineering standards and hygiene practice for the department.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer.
  • Mentor Level 1 to 3 Maintenance Engineers as well as Apprentices.
  • Timely reporting of any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Issues.
  • Follow the communicated escalation route for unscheduled plant downtime and minimise downtime by following good engineering practice.
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving techniques for mechanical, electrical and control issues to quickly identify root causes of issues and impending issues.
  • Raise Stock and Non-Stock request forms.
  • Production of Engineering Shift Report if deputising for Engineering Shift Manager.
  • Contractor Management.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.
  • HNC, HND or Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Electrical & Control Engineering Bias.
  • Understanding and knowledge of PLC programming.
  • Desirable refrigeration experience.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience.
  • Desirable welding/fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and the ability to fault find.
  • Proficient in the maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing systems.
  • Mechanical fitting skills.
  • Desirable IEE 17th or 18th edition.
  • Good leadership qualities and the ability to motivate others and make effective timely decisions.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Good Communication and Inter-personal skills in dealing with colleagues at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Desirable food manufacturing experience.
