UCLH is looking to recruit a Clinical Academic Fellow in Migrant Health (academic) and Adolescent Medicine/General Paediatrics (clinical; registrar/ST4+ equivalent) to commence in Sept 2025 for 6 months. The post is to cover maternity leave.
We offer a post integrating excellent clinical training with high quality research experience. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain both academic (50%) and clinical (50%) Paediatric training and experience in an approved training post in an innovative Department with a strong academic and clinical profile.

Main duties of the job

Academic role: The academic work will be within the Advancing Equity for children and young people seeking asylum and refugees: a blueprint for Generalisable Interventions (AEGIS) project. AEGIS is hosted by UCLH, in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Institute of Child Health-Great Ormond Street UCL, Barts NHS Foundation Trust, University of Salford and the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health.

Clinical role: The post-holder will be based in the Children and Young People's Division at UCLH.
Based in General Paediatrics, with opportunities for special interest development. The candidate will be on the out of hours rota (50% FTE). Options for Special Interests as per candidate's preference (examples only):
• Infectious Diseases and Inclusion/Migrant Health
• Diabetes and obesity
• Child and Adolescent Mental Health
• Haematology (red cell, non-malignant)
• Allergy
• Safeguarding
• Integrated Care
• Epilepsy
• Emergency Medicine

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • GMC full registration
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • APLS or equivalent
  • Evidence of commitment to paediatrics as a career
  • BSc
  • Evidence of research interest, training and development
Experience
  • Middle grade experience in General Paediatrics
  • Broad experience at SHO level in paediatrics in a range of specialties, both inpatient and outpatient
  • Experience of acute paediatrics and ED
  • Experience and commitment in education and training
  • Evidence of training in teaching and education
  • Evidence of experience and interest in research
  • Experience in area of interest
  • Safeguarding experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to manage common acute and chronic paediatric disorders
  • Good practical skills
  • Ability to teach and train junior staff
  • Able to communicate well in verbal and written English
  • Basic research skills
