Locum Consultant Anaesthetist in General with Cardiothoracic St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Applications are invited to apply for a position as a locum consultant general anaesthetist. Main interests include cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out their duties as a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist. The role will also offer the opportunity to deliver Anaesthetic sessions in a wider teaching hospital environment.

Job responsibilities

This is a full-time post at 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs for SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation. There is potential to increase job planned hours to beyond 10 PAs, should this be desirable.

Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register with a licence to practice. Experience of NHS working practices and systems is essential. Person Specification Qualifications

• Holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) training in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within six months of interview
• FRCA or equivalent
• Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview.
• A minimum of 2 years experience of working in the NHS
• A minimum of 1 years continuous experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist (locum or substantive)
• MSc, PhD or similar
• Holder of Certificate for Transthoracic echo

Experience

• Publications in peer reviewed literature
• Publications in book chapters or poster presentations at conference
• Publications in journals and/or letters published
• Presentations at national/international conferences
• Presentations at departmental/ hospital level/ grand rounds
• Research experience example

Skills - clinical

• Advanced airways skills (completion of airway fellowship)
• Advanced regional skills (including nerve catheters)
• Major trauma and ortho
• Fellowship in Cardiothoracics
• Fellowship in Advanced Airway
• Paediatric Anaesthetic experience

Skills - teaching

• Evidence to show teaching junior anaesthetic colleagues
• Evidence to show teaching consultant colleagues
• Evidence to show teaching nursing staff/odps/MDT
• Evidence to show teaching medical students
• Evidence of teaching in a simulation centre
• Post grad teaching qualification
• Awards or prizes for presentations delivered or other aspects of medical career

• Resus certification: current ALS or similar not iLS
• Resus certification: current paeds resus (APLS or similar)
• Resus instructor, current or experience in resus courses

Leadership
