Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist (Urology Cancers)

This is a fixed term Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist (Urology tumours) post until March 2026 to cover maternity leave.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust hosts a leading regional Cancer Centre, and we are seeking a well-organized Clinical Consultant Oncologist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide expertise in the management and treatment of patients with Urology tumours. This includes offering Chemotherapy, systemic therapy, and Radiotherapy (including Stereotactic). This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team providing exceptional cancer care in a modern, state-of-the-art facility.

We are looking for candidates who are on the Specialist Register for Clinical Oncology (or within six months of CCT date for resident doctors), have expertise and experience in Urology tumours, have a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care and continuous professional development, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10.25PA post for a Locum Clinical Consultant Oncologist, with a specialist interest in Urology tumours to cover maternity leave. The post is based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and with weekly attendance to our satellite site at East Surrey Hospital.

Strong links exist between the Royal Surrey Hospital (RSH) and East Surrey Hospital, which holds multidisciplinary cancer team meetings for major tumour types supported by Oncologists based at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. The Royal Surrey Trust provides high quality cancer services, as well as being a busy district general hospital with an accident and emergency department, plus full general medical and surgical teams. Job responsibilities

Remit of the Consultant Post:

Work with colleagues to provide a Urology oncology service.

Provide the oncology service for Urology patients in the Guildford catchment area and prostate patients in the East Surrey Hospital area.

Offer Chemotherapy and systemic therapy expertise, as well as Radiotherapy (including Stereotactic), brachytherapy and molecular radiotherapy.

Participate in regular consultant ward cover sessions.

This remit requires a well-organized individual with good team-working skills and the ability to complete work within agreed timescales in cooperation with all staff groups and with support from senior colleagues.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • Clinical Oncology- CCT (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date)
  • Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR)
  • Recent experience of Oncology care in the relevant tumour groups at a senior level
  • Relevant experience of management of Oncological emergencies
  • Teaching/Education Qualification
  • Higher Degree
Experience
  • Evidence of experience of / commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development
  • Experience and interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
