Job Description
Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

This post has been created to support and develop the OMFS service at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, in line with the needs of the department. This will be a renewable contract of up to 12 months in total. The opportunity to proceed to Substantive Consultant is available, with funding secured. The successful candidate will be working as an OMFS Consultant in OMFS at Homerton Healthcare, in a primarily elective setting, with support to develop their areas of subspecialty interest. The successful candidate will have regular outpatient and theatre sessions at Homerton Healthcare. The consultant will also be responsible for teaching Staff Grades and other junior staff, as well as contributing to the department's teaching, audit, and research programmes at Homerton Healthcare.

Main duties of the job
  1. Consultants will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments.
  2. Consultants will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinics or department.
  3. All Consultants are expected to assume responsibility both singly and corporately for the management of the Junior Medical Staff, including approving and monitoring junior staff rotas and locum arrangements.
  4. The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the medical audit arrangements in the District.
  5. Consultants are also expected to concern themselves with the professional development of their trainees.
  6. All Consultants have a responsibility to contribute to the teaching and assessment of undergraduates and junior doctors.
  7. Consultants are expected to continue with all aspects of professional development to allow successful appraisal and revalidation.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated care trust that provides hospital and community health services for Hackney, the city, and surrounding communities. The Trust provides a full range of adult, older people's, and children's services across medical and surgical specialties.

The trust operates acute services from a single site: Homerton University Hospital, which opened in 1986. Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS
  • FRCS (OMFS) or equivalent
  • MFDS or equivalent Higher degree - BSc, MS, MD, PhD or equivalent
REGISTRATION
  • Registered on GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of the interview
SPECIALTY
  • Subspecialist training in OMFS, in an area of interest suitable to the future development of the department
  • Broad-based general professional training in general medicine
TRAINING AND TEACHING
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff
  • Training the Trainers Course or equivalent
  • Teaching and Assessment in Practice Course or equivalent
MANAGEMENT AND AUDIT
  • Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding and experience of audit
  • Evidence of service audit, design, or change management
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS
  • Knowledge of research methodology
  • Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
  • Training in research methodology
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum (pro rata)
