Mechanical Design Engineer - Solidworks Brighton, East Sussex Matchtech £50 - Hour

Duration: 6 month contract

Rate: £50ph LTD (Outside IR35)

Role details:

Our client, a leading company in the defence and security sector, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Brighton on a contract basis. This role involves being a part of a multi-disciplined team to produce concept and detailed designs that meet internal and external customer requirements within defined schedule and cost parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Produce design schemes and proposals in response to specifications, under the guidance of lead engineers and senior designers.
2. Perform mechanical engineering calculations, stress analysis, and fluid dynamics (FEA and CFD).
3. Develop innovative, well-engineered conceptual solutions and design proposals using SolidWorks.
4. Guide and inspire less experienced engineers.
5. Write technical reports and project documentation.
6. Provide technical guidance and leadership to resolve problems throughout the product development life cycle.
7. Calculate the first order strength and performance of design solutions.
8. Select appropriate materials and material forming solutions suitable for the quantity of components.
9. Check design drawings for completeness and accuracy and select proprietary parts/components.
10. Support investigations, solutions, and write reports.
11. Follow procedures to meet ISO-9001 and AS9100 requirements.
12. Liaise with production engineering to ensure optimum production methods and materials are chosen.

Job Requirements:

1. Experience in mechanical engineering with an understanding of systems engineering requirements.
2. Proficiency in using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
3. Experience in aerospace engineering, though multiple sector experience is also considered.
4. Understanding of geometric tolerancing, stack-up analysis, BS8888, and limits/fits.
5. Ability to perform mechanical detailing, with electrical knowledge an advantage.
6. Technical report writing and familiarity with design office practices.
7. Ability to resolve challenges ingeniously and work with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload appropriately.
9. Understanding of aerospace manufacturing and assembly processes.
10. Relevant engineering degree such as BEng, BSc, MSc, MEng in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
11. Professional membership or working towards membership of IMechE or IET.

Desirable Skills:

1. Knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, including electrical cabling in extreme environments (aerospace) and electronics packaging.
2. Experience in assemblies / GD&T / vibration damping / structures.
