Musculoskeletal Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist

We have an exciting opportunity for an MSK Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner to join our busy Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Department. The post holder will need to have experience and understanding of managing a busy service and effectively managing a demanding and complex caseload.

In addition to this, the post holder will support in the operational management of more junior members of staff to ensure the smooth day to day running of the service.

As well as the clinical duties of the role, there will be plenty of opportunity to be involved in service evaluation, transformation, research, audit, pathway development and quality improvement.

The post holder will work closely with other APPs in the service and be supported by the Deputy Head of Outpatient Therapies.

Main duties of the job
  1. To autonomously manage a complex clinical caseload of musculoskeletal patients within the Integrated Musculoskeletal and Persistent Pain Service (IMAPS)
  2. To provide clinical leadership for the Integrated Musculoskeletal and Persistent Pain (IMAPS) team across Royal London and Mile End Hospitals.
  3. To undertake a cross-site AP clinical and leadership role within Barts Health NHS Trust musculoskeletal services.
  4. To act as an expert physiotherapy practitioner and leader within the wider MSK therapies team.
  5. To support the Deputy Head of Outpatient Therapies in the development of relevant cross-site service and clinical initiatives and modernisations.
  6. To act as the lead clinical representative on agreed clinical and service development groups and boards.
  7. To provide highly specialist care of complex patients including extended scope interventions and management as appropriate.
  8. To provide expert training, advice and clinical education to service providers, service users and service commissioners.
  9. To act as clinical lead for the Mile End Hospital and Royal London Hospital MSK physiotherapy teams.

Person Specification Experience
  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience within the field of MSK
  • Clinical Leadership experience at a senior level
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a service based on the needs of the patient
  • Service development and clinical leadership within a multi-faceted organisation
  • Experience of working in a busy and dynamic environment
  • Experience of working in an inter-disciplinary manner
  • Comprehensive understanding of the pillars of clinical governance
  • Experience of using research and other evidence to inform and drive practice
  • Experience of motivating and leading clinical staff of all levels
  • Previous experience of working in an extended scope role
  • A comprehensive understanding of the needs of the MSK service commissioners
  • Experience of mentoring and training clinical staff and students, across multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of leading clinical governance initiatives
  • Proven experience of leading an MDT
  • Experience of proactively engaging with service users and commissioners
Skills
  • Ability/skills to take a senior clinical leadership role within an MDT

Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy
  • MSc or equivalent experience
  • HCPC Registration
  • Extensive Post Graduate training in Neuromusculoskeletal conditions
  • Comprehensive evidence of a biopsychosocial approach to management of MSK related conditions
  • Knowledge of the NHS and of the structure, roles and responsibilities of outside agencies e.g. Social Services
  • Current awareness of professional practice issues and NHS Developments
  • Understanding of evidence based practice and its implementation
  • Clinical Leadership Training or equivalent
  • Radiation Course
  • Interpretation of investigations including X-Ray
