Job Overview

The post holder will work as part of the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team to deliver a competent, professional and high standard of service. The post holder will be working closely with the Deputy OHA Manager to coordinate and participate in delivering a legally compliant and comprehensive health surveillance program and safety critical fitness for work assessments to our employees. By conducting relevant screening tests and compiling, interpreting, reporting on and analysing data to ensure standards and consistency are maintained.

Responsible for providing an evidence-based approach in delivery of their work which takes into account advice from statutory bodies such as Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as well as other relevant industry and OH and TFL standards OH/HR/TFL/Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist the OH Manager and work with the Deputy OHA and SHE business partners to ensure and meet our Health Surveillance program. Actively coordinate, initiate, plan, and deliver Health Surveillance programs to the business, maintaining confidential and accurate comprehensive records and test results, in line with NMC. Analyze data and trends and report and escalate any queries to senior clinicians and OH physicians and the business.
  • Evaluate documented Health Screening questionnaires, feedback, and work closely with occupational health colleagues.
  • Proactive and cost-effective management of medical equipment, ensuring all equipment is well maintained and meets required standards, coordinating with OH technician colleagues the calibration of equipment with third-party suppliers, reporting faulty equipment, and managing own stock level consumables and clinical waste in line with clinical protocols.
  • Undertake own clinical workload incorporating the above duties.
  • Maintain personal and professional development and participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences, training where appropriate, and report and present innovations to the wider team.
  • Undertake periodic and pre-placement medicals for TFL and other staff.
  • Support the OH&W to contribute or carry out health promotion activities, wellbeing checks, and evidence-based advice ensuring that all consultations and interactions are embedded with TFL ethos of "make every contact count".

Knowledge

  • Registered with NMC part 1 of the register with OH/Screening experience.
  • OH knowledge including being up to date with current legislation, best practice principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Health Surveillance knowledge and ability to conduct audiometry, spirometry, HAVS, and skin testing.
  • Lifestyle medicine or evidence-based knowledge around healthy choices and signposting to current best practice.

  • Analyze data and feedback on any trends.
  • Phlebotomy, Audiometry, Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), spirometry is an advantage.

Experience

  • Varied Occupational health experiences.
  • Railway or other safety-critical work is an advantage.
  • Health screening experience.
  • Previous experience of health surveillance and fitness for work assessments.

Fixed term contract (24 Months)

As a fixed term contractor, we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements. If you choose not to take our final salary pension scheme you will be paid an allowance on top of your salary, subject to Tax and National Insurance. We will share all the details with you at offer stage and the choice will be yours based on your circumstances. Depending on what you choose you can add up to 14% to your salary.
