We're looking for a Paralegal to support our Legal team in coordinating our legal activities and providing administrative input and support to the team and wider ABI policy work. This includes engaging with ABI Members and Associates, consumers, government, and regulatory authorities.
We are open to flexible, part-time and/or job share working - please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.
What's the job?
- Support our Legal team (comprising Director and General Counsel, Assistant Director, Head of Legal Services, and Legal Services Adviser) in ensuring legal risks are effectively managed and mitigated.
- With oversight, draft responses to straightforward legal queries raised by Members (and their legal counsel) and non-legal colleagues within the ABI.
- Provide support in drawing up and reviewing lower-risk and lower-value legal contracts.
- Take ownership of the contracts tracker and contracts signing process.
- Review, analyze, and summarize court judgments.
- Conduct ad hoc research into legal issues and queries.
- Support with preparations for the General Counsel Forum, e.g., help with preparing papers and the management of sponsors and meeting attendees.
- Help coordinate, draft, and edit our quarterly Legal Newsletter.
- Provide general administrative support to the Legal team, including arranging meetings and note-taking.
- Assist in developing and supporting ABI internal compliance policies.
What skills are we looking for?
- Legal background - you have academic qualifications in law and ideally, some prior experience in a relevant role.
- Good understanding of law - you can understand and summarize legal documents and concepts and want to expand your knowledge.
- Organization - you're proactive and can navigate a busy workload and maintain excellent attention to detail.
- Professional - you maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment in confidential and sensitive scenarios.
- Communication - you take a proactive approach to managing internal and have excellent written communication skills.
