Job Description

Are you passionate about health equity and ensuring every patient receives the care they deserve? As the Patient Equity Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in championing accessibility, reducing health inequalities, and improving experiences for our most marginalised patients. You'll lead the implementation of the Accessible Information Standard (AIS), oversee our Interpretation and Translation (I&T) services, and work closely with clinical teams and senior leaders to create lasting change.

Main duties of the job

As the Patient Equity Lead, you will:

  • Implement the Accessible Information Standard (AIS) across the Trust to improve access to care for patients with disabilities, language barriers, and cultural differences.
  • Oversee and manage the Trust's Interpretation and Translation services, ensuring high-quality delivery and value for resources.
  • Lead patient accessibility and equity initiatives to address health inequalities and enhance patient experiences.
  • Provide expert guidance on EDI principles to clinical teams, senior leaders, and regional partners.
  • Analyse patient access and outcomes data to identify inequalities and design solutions for equitable care.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on health inequalities, cultural competency, and reasonable adjustments.
  • Engage directly with patients, families, and advocacy groups to ensure their voices shape services.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications
  • Evidence of continued professional development in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion or related areas including change management and workforce re-design, acquired through training and experience to Masters' level equivalent.
  • Relevant qualification in Equality, Diversity, or Inclusion.
  • Relevant qualification in project management or similar.
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in managing patient services.
  • Experience in using patient information systems.
  • Proven track record in data analysis and report preparation.
  • Experience with service providers and managing contracts.
  • Experience in health service management and change implementation.
  • Familiarity with regional and national standards related to patient equity and accessible information, including provision of interpretation and translation services.
Skills
  • Strong understanding of patient experience and clinical needs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including patients and their families/carers.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Clear writing style to present information.
  • Computer skills for the use of presentations, reports, and statistical analysis e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word programmes.
  • Project management skills to track, monitor, and evaluate progress of projects.

  • To be able to travel around the area of work.
