Your new company

This Public Sector, Financial Services organisation is about to undertake a Transformation Programme wherein they will migrate from one to multiple technology and operations providers. They are seeking a Payments Transition Specialist for a 23 month FTC to ensure a smooth customer experience, as well as compliance with the latest regulations and payment standards (e.g. ISO20022).

The role-holder will provide expert advice to the teams designing and building the payment journeys, ensuring adequate controls exist and that the payment services offer value for money. The role-holder will ensure payment processes are fully aligned to the agreed requirements and hold strategic suppliers to account where necessary. Where payment-related decisions are required, the role-holder will evaluate options and justify recommendations. The role-holder will liaise with multiple stakeholders to ensure all scenarios on payment journeys are properly addressed including all exceptions (e.g. re-presented cheques, and debit card charge-backs).

Your new role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure plans reflect agreed business objectives and that risks fall within risk appetite
  • Undertake stakeholder engagement to ensure the proposed payment solutions meet the requirements of the customer and the business
  • Analyse different payment options available and recommend a preferred approach
  • Advise during the development of detailed end-to-end payment journey maps and sign-off once agreed and completed
  • Present how proposed payment solutions will meet the needs of the customer and the business to senior stakeholders to enable decision-making
  • Ensure payment processes are fully aligned to agreed requirements and hold suppliers to account where necessary
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with relevant subject-matter experts to resolve payment queries (e.g. Financial Crime, Compliance, Retail experience)
  • Ensure all Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies for payment solution delivery are properly captured and escalated as appropriate
  • Write papers for Business Design Authority where new payment processes are proposed
  • Provide guidance on project calls during implementation of all transition states
  • Provide guidance on the structure of commercial relationships
  • Propose and justify requirements which follow industry best-practice, use latest technology advances where appropriate, and meet customer needs for future procurements
  • Participate in bid evaluation and moderation
  • Provision of Information and Analysis to Support Decision-Making
  • Assist in the generation and validation of payment volume forecasts and payment cost forecasts
  • Provision of information and analysis to support decisions on payment issues
What you'll need to succeed
  • Significant experience in the payments industry
  • Systems change experience
  • The typical background for the role-holder would be someone who has worked their way up to a role with oversight of payments within a large Government Department or corporate organisation and further progressed to work on payment-related projects.
  • A CCAB (or equivalent) accountancy qualification is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience of relationship building with internal and external stakeholders
What you'll get in return
  • £56,000 salary for London, £52,300 for either Glasgow or Lytham office
  • Hybrid working with 40% office attendance. This is expected to rise to 60% from April.
  • 23 month FTC
  • Civil Service pension (employer contribution of 28.97%)
