  • Job title: Payroll Manager

  • Work schedule: Part time 3 days per week

  • Hybrid working: 1 day per week in London office

  • Start date: 1st May 2025

Responsibilities

As the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for managing and facilitating an efficient and accurate payroll service for our scaling operation here at Motorway with employees; working closely with our recently onboarded outsourced payroll provider. You will report directly to the Head of Operational Finance with other key stakeholders across the People team and the primary contact for our employees with payroll related queries.

  • Oversee and coordinate payroll operations with the outsourced provider, ensuring the accuracy of data and adherence to critical deadlines.

  • Prepare and compile data for employee commission schemes, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Calculate ad hoc payroll adjustments in the month such as for SSP and unpaid leave.

  • Validate payroll reports to ensure accurate reflection of all payroll changes, including starters, leavers, salary changes, and other adjustments.

  • Review and approve payroll calculations prior to final submission to the outsourced provider.

  • Continuously assess payroll processes, identifying and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with the outsourced payroll provider to resolve issues and streamline payroll delivery processes.

  • Prepare and submit the PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) in a timely manner.

  • Assist the Finance team with payroll reconciliations as part of the month-end close process.

  • Provide support for external audits by responding to payroll-related queries and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.

  • Liaise with the People team and other internal stakeholders on payroll-related matters.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for payroll-related queries, addressing employee concerns regarding pay, tax, and deductions.

  • Provide clear communication on payroll processes and timelines to employees

  • Maintain accurate and compliant records of employee share schemes in our equity platform, ensuring adherence to tax legislation requirements with HMRC. Manage the bi-weekly/monthly process for offboarding and onboarding employees within our equity platform, inclusive of EMI.

Requirements

  • Proven or recurring success in a payroll-focused role

  • Previous experience working with an outsourced payroll provider is desirable.

  • Extensive knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws including employee share schemes.

  • A keen eye for detail

  • Must have an analytical mind and good maths and Excel skills

  • Must have outstanding communication skills (written and oral)

  • Be highly organised and efficient

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of the broader team
