People & Culture Business Partner, North America (with Payroll Focus)

The job is completely remote with the option to work from our office in Victoria.
We are currently looking for an experienced People & Culture Business Partner, North America (with Payroll Focus) to join our team.
You will be responsible for delivering exceptional HR services, with a focus on payroll, compensation benchmarking, employee engagement and labor law compliance across our gaming studios in Canada and the US.

YOUR MISSION- Payroll Administration & Management (20% - 30%):
- Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely preparation and processing of semi-monthly payroll for salaries and hourly employees for FTE employees across five entities in the US and Canada.
- Verify and reconcile timesheets, PTO, bonuses, reimbursement, and other payroll inputs.
- Collaborate with the Head of People & Culture and Finance team to streamline payroll systems and reporting.
- Generate and submit reports for internal departments (e.g. Finance).
- Assist with quarterly and annual filings, including W-2s and other tax documents.
- Manage vendor relationships with payroll providers to ensure seamless operations.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, direct deposits, tax forms, etc.
- Labor Compliance & Employee Relations (20%):
- Ensure company policies and practices comply with federal, state/province, and local labor laws.
- Monitor changes in employment legislation and update procedures accordingly.
- Serve as a resource for compliance-related matters, including audits and reporting.
- Conduct investigations of workplace policy violations.
- Handle employee relations issues, including conflict resolution and grievance management. Provide support and guidance to employees and managers to ensure a fair and compliant workplace.
- Performance Management (20%):
- Support the Head of Business Area P&C with the performance management process, including goal setting, performance evaluations, and development planning.
- Provide guidance and support to managers on performance-related matters.
- Compensation & Benefits Design Support (10% - 20%):
- Conduct thorough market research and analysis to benchmark compensation & benefit structures against industry standards and maintain and update compensation data regularly to reflect changes in market trends and organizational needs.
- Partner with leadership to design incentive programs and salary bands that attract and retain top talent.
- Employee Engagement (10%):
- Serve as the HR subject matter expert to managers and employees in North America.
- Lead initiatives around employee engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Partner with leadership to develop and execute HR strategies that support business growth.
- HR Operations (10%):
- Oversee HR systems and tools to ensure efficient people processes.
- Assist with employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
- Seek ways to proactively improve organizational processes and outcomes.
- Participate in and lead projects as an integral member of the extended People team.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of HR experience, with a strong focus on Canadian and US payroll, compensation, and labor law compliance.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with advanced skills in Excel or other data analysis tools. Ability to translate data insights into actionable HR strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial labor laws, along with a foundational understanding of US labor laws.
- Experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and benefits admin platforms (e.g., ADP, HiBob, BSwift, Fidelity 401K, or similar platforms).
- Experience with benefits/payroll integrations.
- Proven track record in compensation benchmark and market analysis.

Salary Range: CAD $100K - $120K annually or USD $100K - $120K annually if located in the US.
