Job overview

This is an exciting and dynamic role which includes holding a caseload of complex perinatal pelvic health patients as well as delivering innovation and improvement across BSW in line with the NHS England Perinatal Health Project.

Whilst this role is based at the Royal United Hospital, Bath (RUH) it involves working across the Acute Hospital Alliance with Consultants and Specialist Midwives, to co-ordinate the transformation of maternity and physiotherapy care via the Perinatal Pelvic Health Project.

The project includes innovation and transformation of services within the maternity setting, via innovative projects, development of digital resources and a service re-design. They will support other specialist perinatal pelvic health Physiotherapists in a system-wide approach across The Royal United Hospital, Great Western Hospital and Salisbury Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  1. To provide clinical leadership to the teams delivering care for these patients. This is achieved through effective communication, influencing, motivating and inspiring others to deliver high quality care. This includes responding to national initiatives and advising on appropriate clinical and professional strategy relating to pelvic health physiotherapy practice.
  2. To work with senior colleagues in pelvic health across all three sites to facilitate the delivery of appropriate pelvic health pathways. This includes acting as the clinical interface, the Clinical Service Leads for both the medical aspects of pelvic health and the surgical aspects of pelvic health; leading Therapy Services coordination of complex cases and clinical pathway management in order that patients are able to achieve their desired outcomes, and to deliver good practice.
  3. To regularly review clinical practice delivery in light of new models of care and identify new ways of working, this includes the advancement of advanced clinical skills.
  4. The Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Clinical lead is an expert in their speciality. The role includes performing highly advanced clinical assessment, management and treatment of pelvic health patients with diverse presentations and complex physical conditions both ante and postnatal, with autonomy, and to be able to support colleagues to do the same.

Person specification Knowledge & Experience
  • Advanced practice experience in Physiotherapy for pelvic floor dysfunction in female patients.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the NHS, understanding the role of physiotherapy within the current evolving health environment.
  • Evidence of having developed new initiatives, including multiprofessional working.
  • Good understanding of the perinatal pelvic health project and women's hubs.
  • Experience of system working.
