We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to join the Acute Therapy Team (ATT) at University College Hospital on a 12-month leave cover basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the ATT, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, 7-day service to all patients within emergency services.
In this role, you will manage a varied and complex caseload while also providing guidance and support to colleagues in this fast-paced environment. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated Physiotherapist who excels in providing decisive and effective therapy input, demonstrates leadership skills, and can maintain a flexible and calm approach under pressure. Applicants should have experience working at Band 6 level within the NHS and be well-versed in a broad range of core physiotherapy specialties.

Main duties of the job
  1. To be responsible for the early assessment and management of patients referred from A&E, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) to prevent unnecessary admissions and enable timely discharge from hospital.
  2. To provide expert advice within the multidisciplinary team and work closely with community services and partner agencies in order to maintain continuity of service.
  3. To be responsible for providing Clinical Leadership to the A&E and AMU Therapy Team, including carrying out staff appraisals, service development work and audit projects.
  4. To focus on developing and promoting the role of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists within the speciality, as well as developing and promoting protocols and standards in the care of medical and elderly patients.
  5. To be responsible for daily operational activities and planning, evaluation and development of the team in conjunction with the Acute Therapies Operational lead and Acute Therapies Manager.
  6. The post holder is responsible for induction, training and supervision of junior staff, students and Therapy Instructors on rotation in the Team.
  7. To provide cover within the therapy department during periods of staff absence.
  8. To provide clinical leadership to staff within the wider medicine therapy team when required due to staff absence.
  9. To participate in 7-day services rota.

Person specification Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Degree/diploma in physiotherapy
  • State Registered Physiotherapist (HPC)
Experience
  • Significant experience at Band 6 level including a variety of specialities such as care of the elderly, respiratory, orthopaedics, oncology & neurology
  • NHS experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development and a detailed personal development portfolio including post registration courses on appropriate topics
  • Previous experience of supervision and clinical education of a broad range of clinicians and students.
  • Post registration courses in rehabilitation.
  • Membership of special interest group
  • Previous experience of formal presentations to multi professional groups
Communication & Customer Care
  • Experience of close working relationships with higher education institutions.
  • Experience of supervision and appraisal.
  • Proven clinical leadership ability
  • Experience of team building and team working skills
Quality and service improvement
  • Experience of service development in design and application
