Principal Automation Engineer Architect

Job Overview:
As a Principal Automation Engineer Architect, you will lead and drive the design and implementation of innovative automation solutions. This role is pivotal in delivering innovative, scalable, and secure architectures that automate IT infrastructure and processes. As a key leader, you will collaborate across teams to craft solutions that improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of on-premises environments, including modern technologies for deploying, configuring, and running compute, storage, and networking. Additionally, experience with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure automation, and CI/CD practices is crucial. Proficiency in virtualisation, container orchestration, and serverless technologies is essential. You will drive automation and infrastructure strategy while mentoring the engineering team to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Orchestrate architecture and development of automation solutions, prioritising scalability, reliability, and security. Evaluate and embrace emerging technologies and standard methodologies to optimise automation workflows and increase deployment efficiency.
• Lead the implementation based on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks. Develop and integrate modern pipelines with platforms such as GitLab, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins to enable automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Build and manage reliable, highly available infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure. Use virtualisation tools such as VMware, Hyper-V, and OpenStack to improve resource efficiency and manage virtual environments. Design infrastructure by using container technologies and serverless solutions for scalable, flexible deployments.
• Conduct architectural reviews, develop roadmaps. Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams to ensure the successful execution of automation projects.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible, combined with strong expertise in scripting and automating complex infrastructure environments, and a solid understanding of modern DevOps practices.
• Experience in designing automated solutions for diverse cloud environments, including hybrid cloud architectures that seamlessly integrate on-premise and cloud-based systems, as well as containerised and serverless computing environments.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and communication and leadership skills, with a proven track record to foster teamwork across teams with varied strengths.
