The Cardiff Commitment is looking for a Principal Business Development Officer who can:
- Build relationships with key partners across the city, including schools, young people's representatives, Further and Higher education, work-based learning, employers, Welsh Government, Careers Wales, and support agencies to further the ambitions and goals of the Cardiff Commitment.
- Facilitate and broker opportunities for employers to actively assist in the creation of pathways to work for young people - e.g., via work experience, traineeships, apprenticeships, internships, and jobs.
- Work with Economic Development and the Regional Skills Partnership to support local, regional, and national skills growth strategies, which enable positive progression for the young people of Cardiff, particularly in priority economic growth sectors, and help shape the Cardiff Commitment to respond effectively to demand.
- Promote the Cardiff Commitment, attending local and regional forums and networks that will enhance knowledge and awareness of the Cardiff Commitment and develop connections in the areas of Careers, Skills, Apprenticeships, and the World of Work.
Based at home with some face-to-face time as required at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, CF10 4UW, and other locations across Cardiff.

In this position, you'll lead a coalition of partners to harness Cardiff's cultural, economic, and social capital, ensuring that young people have access to high-quality career and work-related experiences.
Your focus will be on inspiring ambition, developing skills, and supporting progression into education, employment, or training. You'll work closely with stakeholders to innovate and enhance the delivery of career services across the city, giving young people a solid foundation to secure positive destinations after they leave school.
What We Are Looking For From YouThe successful candidate will have:
- Strong business engagement experience and a solid understanding of Cardiff's growth sectors.
- A commitment to creating exceptional opportunities for young people, fostering ambition, and supporting skills development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Championing the Cardiff Commitment and driving partnership initiatives to support skills development and career pathways.
- Developing networks with businesses to enhance career education and awareness of job opportunities in Cardiff.
- Collaborating with Council teams on employment and skills initiatives and prioritising support for vulnerable youth groups.
- Building links with FE, HE, and the 3rd sector to ensure the best fit of activity led within the Council with other regional and national initiatives on employer engagement.
- Supporting the development of academic and vocational pathways for young people aged 16-19.
