We are looking for a highly motivated professional who shares our values to join our successful Nuclear Technologies Division in the position of 'Principal Consultant'. This is a senior role with accountability for delivery, project management and leadership of technical work delivered within their area of expertise.

The successful candidate will provide a high quality of consultant support to TÜV SÜD Nuclear Technology Division clients in the field of Special Nuclear Materials. An experienced Technical Lead with specialist knowledge of their subject area and a track record of successful project delivery and technical leadership. You will be joining a small but dedicated team of specialists providing advice to clients across a range of issues related to the current and future management of Special Nuclear Materials which may include: fuel manufacturing and spent fuel management of AGR and metallic fuels, wet and dry storage, fuel bearing materials, exotic fuels and special nuclear materials. Future opportunities include involvement in technical work to support Next Generation Nuclear, Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and fusion.

A key element of this role is supporting the development of less experienced colleagues through mentoring and supportive project management. You will be expected to take a key role in establishing and successfully delivering a strategy to continually develop TÜV SÜD capabilities within this area, ensuring the continued excellence of our team.

This role can be based at Warrington (Birchwood Park) or Whitehaven (Westlakes Science Park)

Responsibilities and authority:

  1. Supporting the development of less experienced colleagues through mentoring and supportive project management
  2. Responsibility for delivery of technical project and strategic work
  3. Proactively undertake commercial / business activities and project management including:
    1. Marketing activities and business development (e.g. attendance at supplier events, production of marketing materials)
    2. Presentations to clients and conference attendance
    3. Providing assistance to the TÜV SÜD Commercial Team: preparation of expressions of interest / pre-qualifications and tenders / proposals
    4. Project management and assurance in accordance with TÜV SÜD policies and procedures

Education and Experience

Science or Engineering degree in a relevant subject.

Qualification to Masters or PhD is an advantage but not essential.

At least 10 years relevant nuclear or non-nuclear industrial experience is essential.

Specific skills, knowledge, competencies and training

  1. Technical specialist / recognised
  2. Able to work under pressure.
  3. Track record of delivery.
  4. High standard of technical report writing and verbal communication
  5. Detailed Nuclear industry knowledge in one or more specialist area.
  6. Membership, or working towards membership of a professional body (i.e. CChem, CSci, CPhys, CEng).
  7. Valid UK Driving Licence
