Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Croydon / York

Summary

A successful employee-owned engineering design consultancy that provides technical services to clients including construction firms, transport agencies, local authorities, engineering consultants, and private clients throughout the UK is looking to hire an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer.

The successful candidate will be working from our Croydon Office and work closely with discipline heads based in the other MHB offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and York.

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will:

  • Be responsible for providing strategic leadership and technical oversight for engineering projects.
  • Have experience of some of the following structures: bridges, tunnels, stations & buildings and design using various materials, e.g., concrete, steel, timber, masonry, or FRP.
  • Guide project teams, liaise with clients, and ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects on time and budget.
  • Lead design and analysis on a range of infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical oversight and approval of geotechnical designs.
  • Develop conceptual designs and produce engineering designs, drawings, and reports in accordance with project requirements and ensure technical compliance.
  • Conduct geotechnical calculations and analysis using tools such as Slope W, Settle 3, CADS Pile Suite, PILE, ALP, Kubla Cubed, or similar.
  • Check design documents, calculations, and drawings completed by other engineers to ensure technical compliance.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams and ensure project compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Manage project teams, ensuring deliverables are on time and within budget.
  • Guide and mentor engineers, providing technical and managerial support.
  • Oversee the financial management and profitability of projects.
  • Attend meetings representing the team as well as representing the company in industry events and technical publications.
  • Contribute to business development and secure new projects through client engagement and proposal writing.

Candidate Specification

  • 8+ years of experience in relevant discipline with a successful track record of leading and delivering high-profile projects.
  • Relevant qualifications (Ideally degree qualified).
  • Sentinel PTS card holder.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 dependent on level of experience plus package including:

  • Annual profit-related bonus (up to £3600 tax-free due to employee-owned status).
