Principal Scientist, Computational Chemistry

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist within the Molecular Design team to support research activities across multiple therapeutic areas and drug modalities. The position will involve application of computational chemistry methods and innovative science to drug discovery programs. You will get the opportunity to work in a large computational science department interacting with a range of talented scientists, across the UK and US, with various backgrounds and experience.

We are looking for this role to be based at Stevenage, UK.

In this role you will

  • Apply cutting edge computational chemistry techniques to drive multiparameter optimisation in drug discovery programs
  • Work on inter-disciplinary teams providing computational design of experiments, including data generation to strengthen models
  • Develop new capabilities and infrastructure which assist other scientists in their work and maintain GSK's powerful suite of design tools
  • Work closely with colleagues from other disciplines in a matrix environment, communicating complex scientific ideas to partners with a range of backgrounds

Basic Qualifications/Experience:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD, MSc or equivalent in chemistry, pharmacy or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Virtual screening, structure-based and ligand-based approaches to design small molecules, Machine Learning and QSAR modelling, Free Energy prediction.
  • Demonstrated scientific contributions documented with publications and/or presentations

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of the drug discovery process, for example medicinal chemistry, toxicology, DMPK, and/or screening data analysis
  • Experience with commercial modelling tools, eg Schrodinger, CCG, etc
  • Experience in python scripting
  • Strong knowledge of chemical and protein structure
  • Experience with PROTAC or Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) design
  • Experience with array design or synthetic tractability prediction
