Job Description
Overview

Business Area: Rail Services

Location: South West

Reporting to: National Specialist Operation Manager

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week

Role Overview

In the hybrid role of Production Manager - HS2, you will be undertaking dual responsibilities of both an Operations Manager and Operations Standards Manager for the Rail Services GWR portfolio.

You will be responsible for managing and maintaining the competence and standards of operational personnel working on behalf of GWR across various contracts and variations. Conducting training and assessments as required to ensure all staff within your remit are competent to perform their duties.

You will also be responsible for providing effective leadership for those working on behalf of GWR, ensuring delivery of exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and update methods of work, risk assessments, audit, and location checks as required.
  • Ensure the yard and working environment is maintained to a level that satisfies all safety standards.
  • Provide and document clear and constructive feedback on staff members' performance.
  • Schedule the delivery of jobs to customers in accordance with the Long Term Planning and Short Term Planning teams to produce an optimal roster for traincrew.
  • Ensure shifts are fully manned and communicated to staff in a timely fashion, ensuring contingency plans are put in place in case of last-minute changes to the roster.
  • Manage safety issues efficiently and in accordance with railway regulations.
  • Deliver training and development reviews with the Operations/Regional Manager.
  • Maintain competence of safety-critical operational staff in PTS, rules, and regulations pertaining to their grade.
  • Ensure route and traction knowledge is maintained for all staff in the area, inclusive of personal knowledge and that of other management personnel within the region.
  • Complete Level 1 and Level 2 incident investigation reports.
  • Partake in the onboarding process for new entrants by providing rules training and assessments to all new hires recruited to operational roles within the region.
  • Develop and undertake Training Needs Analysis and procedures to meet emerging business needs.
  • Participate in industry regulatory forums, meetings, and Network Rail reviews.
Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Personal Track Safety qualification.
  • European Train Driving License holder and competent ETDL train driver.
  • Ideally freight competent, but passenger competence will be considered.
  • Clean safety record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of rail industry rules and regulations.
  • Good level of IT literacy.

Desirable

  • Proven leadership/management ability.
  • IOSH safety training.
  • 7331 trainer/instructor qualification.
  • Accident and investigation experience.
  • Formal assessor and verifier qualification, such as A1, V1, or D123/33.
  • Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO).
