Job Description
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Professor in " Structural Mechanics " W3 Associate or Full Professor; to begin in winter 2026/27. Scientific environment The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the TUM School of Engineering and Design. Responsibilities The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the field of Mechanics, focusing on applications in the built environment, infrastructure, and the natural environment. We expect competence in developing methods and models using modern continuum-mechanical concepts to describe the mechanical behaviour of complex materials in the built or natural environment. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university's bachelor and master programs. Qualifications We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment relative to the relevant career level (please see for further information). A university degree, an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, and pedagogical aptitude with the ability to teach in German and English are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad as well as the proven ability and experience in research/science management and leadership and the proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and to attract third-party funding is expected. In addition, practical experience is welcome.
