We're excited to expand our Engineering Division with a Project Engineer Civils Apprentice to join our Professional Development Programme for our 2025 intake, based in the Northwest and United Utilities region.

What will you be doing?

  1. Working on site within the project team you will be an integral part of the operation and delivery of many projects, gaining knowledge and experience in the following areas:
  2. Form part of the Project Site Engineering team
  3. Assist in setting out and dimensional control.
  4. Equipment management and calibration, weekly, monthly instrument checks etc.
  5. Assist/ aware in maintaining the construction issue drawing register.
  6. Aware of the importance of Temporary Works and lifting operations.
  7. Aware of material take off's, ready mixed concrete, reinforcement, pipes and bulk materials.
  8. Carry out material delivery check inspections, ready mixed concrete, reinforcement, pipes and bulk materials.
  9. Carry out inspection and test check sheets, pre concrete slump test, concrete test cube controls etc.
  10. Prepare permits to break ground, approved by senior members of the Site Engineering team.
  11. Raise improvements and promote a positive H&S culture.
  12. Aware of safe systems of work, RAMS and COSHH assessments.
  13. Aware of short-term lookahead programmes, direct delivery and subcontract.
  14. Assist/ aware in as built survey records, drawings and completion documentation.

Apprenticeship:

As an Apprentice, you'll undertake a BSc (Hons) Construction Management Degree at either Liverpool John Moores University or University of Salford depending on location under our mentorship and guidance.

Qualifications required to apply:

University of Salford It is expected that applicants must have the equivalent of GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / Level 4 or equivalent. In addition to these applicants should hold an HNC/HND in Construction and the Built Environment (or equivalent qualifications appropriately mapped on an individual basis to University of Salford Level 4 modules).

Liverpool John Moores Grade C or Grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification. Average A Level offer: BCC. Basic IT skills, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Good use of Written English. Grade 3 Math and English at GCSE.

Flexibility- The role is essentially site based and whilst there may be periods when attendance at an office, (Either MWH or a Clients), the need to commute anywhere within the Severn Trent region on a daily basis or on occasion lodge locally to a place of work is a requirement of the role.

Strong communication skills- both written and verbal are essential, and you must be able to work well within a team and independently.

Strong work ethic- self - motivated, flexible and reliable with good problem-solving skills. You will also have a strong client service focus and excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.

Excellent computer skills- a good understanding of Microsoft Office are essential.

Curiosity- a natural curiosity regarding how things work, is a desirable characteristic common to all commissioning engineers.
