Job Description

We are working with a leading RF/Microwave technology company at the forefront of innovation who is looking for a freelance RF Filter Engineer to support them with their ongoing projects.

The Role

  • Outside IR35
  • 6-12 month contract
  • Hybrid work model with several UK locations
The Responsibilities:
  • Design, simulate, and optimise microstrip and waveguide filters, including bandpass, low-pass, high-pass, and notch filters.
  • Perform full-wave electromagnetic simulations using tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, or equivalent.
  • Develop and validate filter designs through prototyping, tuning, and testing in a lab environment.
  • Work with mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and performance integrity.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and thermal stability assessments to meet aerospace requirements.
  • Support RF system integration, ensuring filters meet performance specifications in real-world conditions.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, design documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Key Skills & Experience Required:
  • Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in RF/microwave filter design, specifically microstrip and waveguide structures.
  • Strong proficiency in electromagnetic simulation tools (HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analysers, network analysers).
  • Understanding of aerospace EMC/EMI requirements and environmental considerations.
  • Experience in material selection for high-frequency applications, including ceramics, PCB substrates, and metal waveguides.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
