Job title: Science Teacher (Remote)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £34,000 - £39,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)

Location: UK Home based using virtual classroom

Contract: Permanent; Full School Year

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Science Teacher (Remote) to join our online school, ADL.

About the School

Job Purpose:

Acorn Digital Learning is an online alternative provision, going through an exciting period of growth and development. We are looking for innovative and experienced teachers to carry out the functions of an online teacher in accordance with the Teacher Standards and the stated aims and objectives of Acorn Digital Learning (ADL) Online School and the Outcomes First Group (OFG).

As an online teacher, you will be motivated by your belief that every student can achieve and work towards their potential. Experience of working with SEND and SEMH students is essential, but we understand that every teacher is a teacher of SEND and therefore ability to explain your experience and expertise is more important than a job title. Experience of teaching online is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided.

We are a close-knit team dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes for our students in a welcoming and positive environment. You will be delivering inclusive, responsive and innovative teaching and learning in an online, technology-based environment, while also providing pastoral support for our pupils who have varied and complex needs.

You will teach in accordance with the ethos, organisation and policies of the digital school as a fully committed member of the teaching team and as detailed in the specific duties and core standards below.

Duties and Responsibilities

ORGANISATION

Be familiar with and support all staff in following ADL's safeguarding policy

Be aware of, and comply with, all current policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person within ADL

Work with the leadership team to ensure that ADL is ready to become OEAS accredited in line with Ofsted's guidance for Online provisions.

Work in collaboration with the Head of Department, to plan, design and produce teaching materials and resources appropriate to age and ability and in accordance with the ADL's Development Plan.

Work with an appropriate scheme of work, plan, deliver and review lessons which are appropriate to the age and ability of the students and facilitate progression in students' learning

Assess, record and offer feedback and report on the development, progress and attainment of the students assigned to you within the ADL guidelines including IEPs, PEPs and EHCPs where needed and appropriate

Manage the online classroom and teaching equipment so as to create a positive learning environment which makes effective use of available resources

Attend meetings, carry out administrative tasks and duties as requested and per practice and policy

Provide and facilitate the general progress and well-being of any individual student within any group of students assigned to you, providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters

Promote the social and emotional development of all students through positive approaches that encourage appropriate relationships and the development of self-esteem

Implement the ADL policy with regard to registration, student absence, dress code and actively promote ADL rules relating to behaviour and health and safety

Participate in full staff and departmental meetings and to contribute to ADL's decision making and consultation procedures supporting the SLT of the school to set the vision and direction of the school

Be involved in the ADL's Performance Management process, to engage in professional development activities so as to enhance personal performance, fulfil personal potential and be able to participate effectively in the implementation of ADL's goals and Development Plan

Contribute to the "life and community" of the school in all of its aspects

Establish individual active links with external clients and local community in order to promote online learning and extend both student learning and own professional development

Essential Criteria

Be UK based

Experience of supporting vulnerable pupils who have demonstrated challenging or complex behaviours

Experience of using IT effectively

Qualified to Degree level and QTS essential

The ability to follow instructions from the Senior Leadership Team and also be able to work independently

The ability to manage behaviour effectively

Ability to recognise small steps of progress in pupils' journey and development

SEN/ SEMH experience desired but not essential

This position is due to commence in April 2025 - subject to approved reference/DBS checks.
